Hey, thanks for taking a moment to help with this.

I'm looking into getting a new Mac for graphics work, but I'm not really familure with any GOOD dealers in the city.

I'm also not even sure when they're expecting to release the G5...which I assume would be worth waiting for, rather than getting the tail end of the G4 series.

anyone happy with their Mac dealer?...let me know?

mac haters need not aply...I'm trying to be productive here...keep it to yourself thanks

much apreciated.

yay!

not that i have a mac, but i thought this would be a good place to put my techie q:

me iz dumb. how do i delete a write-protected file? i got a couple of family guy episodes off morpheus that are audio only and i can't get rid of them! argharghargh...it's so infuriating!

that, and listening to my neighbours having sex for the past half hour has not put me in a good mood.

g'luck with finding a nice mac, tack!

i wouldn't hold your breath for the G5s, for starters. secondly, there is a place near adelaide and jarvis that's supposedly pretty good. i can try and dig up the name and actual location for you.

you won't really get any good deals on the machines themself, but you may get a few things thrown in with the package.

you should try and make a trip down to an Apple Store in the states sometime. i think there's one near the border, in michigan or new york state, or maybe it was ohio? iono.

Tack... why do you want a mac for 'graphics work' ?

it's really quite silly... a pc can do everything a mac can, sometimes better, PLUS, you get the added bonus of compatability with the magority out there. i still dont understand why anyone would want a mac aside from a showpeice for their livingrooms.

Mac's DO NOT RULE THE GRAPHICS INDUSTRY ANYMORE! Shit one day im gonna have to write it accross the sky.

^^^yah, I was thinking about it...I think they have a store in buffalo.

regardless, it's not so much a deal I'm looking for, I'm just looking for a good retailer who stands behind their shit, and has a wide range of options to pick from.

all help is apreciated.

ez.

I want it not because it's this or that for the industry...I like the interface better...and I've learned almost all that I've done on a mac, so all the hot keys, and shortcuts are ingrained into my head.

I mean, yes, a pc is just as good, but I prefer them a little bit...otherwise, no reason.

I mean, car a is as good as car b, but you like the dash on car b better...so be it.

how come you're allways on such an anti-mac rant?

it's really pretty irellivent what you use...no?

I suppose it is irellivent.... i just get really annoyed when people still express the misconceptions of the mac and the graphics industry that's all.

It's one of those things that you know is wrong and most people think it's still true... just get's under my skin yaknow?

yah, I hear you...for sure...I guess I just added that in, so that those people (who are the majority) wouldn't go into the don't use a mac thing.

I just like the interface better...I still have this old hunker pc for other stuff...

meh, just a preference...I guess.

there is still a 40% chance I'm going to get a PC...I know good pc dealers, but no mac dealers...thus this thread.

I want to see what's up for offer these days.

I got mine from DataIntegrity @ York U. (York Lanes).
I found it to be the best price around... as for servicing or anything I never had to go to them so I don't know how good they are.

Mac is not the graphic standard, it's about half half these days.. but I love my mac, the OS in my opinion is way easier and worth the extra $$. BUT that's it's biggest downfall, your usually paying twitce as much for a mac that has the same specs as a pc.

Where's Mr Number Nine ?
(he knows his PCs inside out and owns a Mac since it's better)

well.. er as per mac dealers.. the only ones i know of are vistek (more of a camera/digital industry product store) might be expensive there.

and there's a place on the s/w corner of spadina and college... called computer systems or something like that.. they appear to have TONs of mac products in house...

Eitherway, you should know that you'll be spending alot more for a mac than you will for a pc equivalent. just a heads up.

Definitely go to http://www.macdoc.com

David Hellstern (the owner) is in the business of building specialized Mac systems to suit the user's needs, all at very good prices.

He also delivers.

I have always appreciated the first-hand experience he offers...

iPoint Computing is the name and it's right at the corner of adelaide and jarvis. although you should call them first since i've heard that they might have closed shop.

yeah, it's computer systems centre at spadina and college. I got my g3 there a few years ago and I was pretty happy. they have a full on-site service center there too so they can fix stuff on the spot.

Got my mac at carbon computing (I don't know their address, but it's one block west of CPUsed, on the same street)...I shopped around all the stores mentioned above and found this one to have the best prices...but that was a year ago!!
