I can't stand going to a theatre to watch a movie ... it's so annoying ... people talking ... not being able to pause to take a leak ... ect etc etc ... I'm much more of a wait till it comes out on DVD so I can watch it in the comfort of my own house kinda guy

Ew, who wants to watch it on the computer? It's a gorgeous epic, you shouldn't miss it in the theatres. And since it's been out for a while there are less people going, especially during matinees. Or go to an out-of-the-way theatre.

It's coming on August 6th, but that's just the regular movie edition. They're coming out with a 4 Disk extended special edition on November 12th.

i would of thought they would wait and put all 3 movies out in one collectors edition. but then again they make more money this way!

I'm sure once all three are done they'll do that too.

Just think of how many Star Wars collections have come out. The cash cow hasn't even had her teat pulled yet ;)

4 dvd's. Anyone else find this ridiculous? That is out of control, I never ever ever watch the 2nd disk bullshit. Always pure crap. Another argument that marketing not world hunger will destroy everything in the end.

With the studio that released it being New Line. I'd be very surprised if they bothered to do a 4 disc set. It's something that hasn't been done for a single feature, and I think they'd be hard pressed to give up features and details about the first film that would warrent 4 DVD's worth of material. I could see it being used for the entire series, once all completed, but for one feature? I can't really see it happening.

Also, New Line has been on of the studios that has prided itself on releasing top notch DVD's and a double DVD is the most they've done so far (for Boogie Nights, Seven and Magnolia). A 4 DVD package makes the release price a bit too high for the average consumer, which is who their target audience is, squarely. The Criterion triple DVD release of Brazil is on average over a hundred dollars, and even without all the licensing fees and extra costs that drives Criterion prices up anyways, the DVD's would've still cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of $60 each if a major studio had released them.

From the Ministry of I can see a double DVD release for the first feature, but not a 4 DVD release. Double DVD is still within the average price range of the average DVD buyer. 4 is not.

A 3 3/4 hr movie (with the 30 extra minutes) PLUS directors commentary would have to be spaned over 2 discs to begin with anyway (look at Pearl Harbour). Any additional material would have to go on discs 3&4. Plus, this is being released AFTER the major 2 disc DVD release (which all the regular people will buy). They're basically gonna milk the money off of the crazy diehard fans (who will most likely buy both at that.)

Pure rumour. At least I think so. The trailer for TT hasn't been released yet. If it is, I'm behind, wayyy behind.

Scenes added to the 4 CD set include:

More time with the Hobbits including a musical number. Extra scene further underscores the Hobbits sense of isolation and the growing realization that they can't ignore the outside world for much longer.

Frodo and Sam POV watching the elves going to the "Undying Land".

When the Hobbits are sleeping, Frodo is awakened by Aragorn's signing of an elvish tune that foreshadow's his relationship with Arwen.

More at Rivendell with Aragorn.

More on the departure of the Fellowship from Rivendel.

More in the Mines before the cave troll fight.

Gifting scene ... as the Fellowship leaves, Galadriel gives them each a personalized gift that will end up being critical to their future. Legolas gets a special bow, Sam gets some elvin rope that comes in handy when he faces a giant spider in The Two Towers, and a touching moment between Gimli and Galadriel.

wow... thats alot of shit from the book taken out.... that they put back in!
