Leafs vs. Raptors

If only the Raptors would play with the heart that the Leafs play with, I might just enjoy watching them. Win or loose, I can handle anything.....except not trying, not giving 110%, quitting, whining, not playing hurt, and childish bitching ect.ect. Vince Carter has NO CLUE what it means to TRY AS HARD AS YOU CAN.

They should look @ the way this city gets SOOOOOOO pumped about the Leafs who are a good team, but unfortatley NOT a Cup Contender (oh lord make me eat my wordz :D ). Mostly because the seem to give it their all, it must be the blue LEAF blood that runs through our veins.

Its fucking insaness out here in Leaf land. And I fucking LOVE IT!

Quitters SUCK! ie. the Raptors

GRj

Maybe we should change the purple to blue

The difference between the Raptors and Leafs??
One will be a professional sports team next year and the other will be history.

At least the Raptors will be in a league next year. If they are lucky, the Leafs may see the ice again in 2006 when they finally give in to the owners and realize the game is only marketable in Canada.

Did you know that the USA curling championships got better ratings than NHL hockey this year on the major US networks?

ouch...

Yeah and the Raptors play a sport in which you don't even have to play .500 to make the playoffs AND player determines whether or not they will play depending on if they start or not AND a bench size is determined by who is in jail tonight and who isn't.

yes his post had stereotypes - but honestly the number of NBA 'players' who get into trouble with the 'pO-lice" is absurd. there is some truth to it.

I just can't stand the cocky attitude, and the egos on some of these guys - white or black! Just can't relate to it, wtf ever happened to being humble and modest?

look at players NHL players in contrast alla Mats Sundin for example, class act, modest, and well liked. Must be the socialist up bringing in Sweden.

Basketball appeals to a totally different demographic in Toronto. Yeah there are those of us who just love the game but we're in much smaller numbers than serious hockey fans. The NBA is smart, it markets basketball as an urban hip game and there's a big demand for that in a multicultural city. There's a sizable population of people who may not have the same appreciation for the tradition and meaning that hockey has for so many Canadians. Personally I was Rick Vaive in my driveway every day after school, Wendel Clark - Bob Probert were the best fights ever and Felix Potvin is still my favourite netminder but the courts are where I'm focused these days....tough times for Raps fans, although some of you hockey fans should check out the playoff ball on off nights for the Leafs..that's good watchin'.

So there's room for both and MLG is still filling up that building for the Raps, Sportsnet has pretty well every game, something else that brings decent viewer ratings on non-hockey nights so I don't see the Raps going anywhere. Now I'm hoping the Leafs win the cup, make huge $$ for MLG who then throw some dough at a big time GM, coach and a big man for the Raps

Go Leafs Go!

No, there is only 1 stereotype in my statement.

If I am not mistaken right now New Orleans and New York both have playoff births clinched with losing records and either Boston, Phily, or Cleveland is going to follow suit...fact!

3 weeks ago Alan Iverson refused to play because he didn't start... fact!

As for the stereotype... feel free to think what you may you can ask Rasheed Wallace, Jayson Williams, Chris Webber, Damon Stoudamire... hell even bring Charles Barkley in to refute this stereotype.

My statement was not in attack of guy's hairstyles or two isolated incidences of violence in a violent sport. Mine was in defense of a hard hitting, rough, fast paced sport in which 22 guys play as a team, whilst being compared to a sport where the league applauds Shaq for coming back a day early with a sore toe.

Basketball is very lucky in that A: all you need is a ball and a hoop and you can play forever. and B: it has hip-hop on it's side which is the most powerful marketing tool on the face of the earth right now. Hockey is less accessable. Those who criticize it, probably have never put on a pair of skates and have no idea what it is like to actually play the game well.

I love B-ball always have. I love Hockey, always will. They are different in everything from skill needed to attitude while playing. But yes, I do wish the Raptors played with as much heart as the Leafs, this season sucked ass big time.

oh please. Kevin Stevens, Chris Pronger, Craig McTavish, John Kordic, Graham James, DANY HEATLEY. somehow whitey just never seems as criminal standing next to a black man. plenty of other reasons why hockey stinks though. for example, my old sweater has a STOP SIGN on the back to remind players to hold up before they hurl me into the boards face first. the NHL is also the only league where a team can lose a game and still get a point. and don't even talk to me about toughness. if you've ever been steamrolled trying to draw a charge, battled for position in the post, etc., you'll know basketball is as tough as any sport. besides, it's easy for hockey players to be tough guys when they're all wearing full body armour.

basketball is also better than hockey (and pretty much every other sport in the world) in terms of pure athleticism. basketball players are the biggest, strongest, fastest, quickest athletes in the world. in basketball, TALENT wins. there's no room on a twelve man roster for thug type players like Chris Neil or Wade Belak. anyways, i'd take a trash-talking, big-ego-having, blunt-smoking baller before a brainless drunk-driving hockey player anyday. Brett Hull on Lidstrom after being asked about Lidstrom's personality: "What personality?"

And it's even easier to be a tough guy when you're packing a pistol. When was the last time you heard of a hockey player being charged with weapons possession? Besides, most hockey players take off their helmets when they fight. They also rip off each other's equipment during a brawl. By the way, ever watch a basketball fight? It's almost like watching two gina chicks go at outside of Plastique. Besides, the basketball referees immediately break up fights. In hockey? Nope. They let them go at it.

There is room for rapists, though. How are Kobe Bryant's Los Angeles Rapers doing in the standings anyway?

Man, when did race have anything to do with this? Oh yeah as for athleticism... being 6'9" does not mean you are an athlete, it means you are lucky you are tall and the basket happens to be closer to you.

Your shirt needs a stop sign because you were playing at40km/h and a guy can turn around quicker than that.

I am not wasting time speaking on what sport is better... might as well say that an apple is better than an orange. What I am saying is that hockey is a tough sport for tough guys who care about the integrity of the sport and care about playing as a team... that is all. Basketball is a sport that thrives on the prima-donna, the showboat and the spectacle of "in your face" trickery... and that is fine. Shit it's the only sport that plays music while being played, so much for concentration.

I'm not gonna just listen to some ankle dragger go off about the lack of athleticism in hockey. Wade Belak is there to protect his superstar teammates... think some 3rd string guard gives two shits if Latrell Sprewell gets dumped on his ass?

i do agree with most of what you said, but this part here was just plain bullshit!

no doubt they are the tallest atheletes in the world, but as far as all the attributes you mention, you can easily find other sports where their athletes are bigger, stronger, faster and quicker. for starters.... have you ever heard of football??

soccer is probably the fittest sport in the world due to the extensive running.

There aren't continual pauses and random subbing like B-ball, American Football or Hockey.

and size means fuck all in athleticism.

i've always wondered why fighting is condoned in Hockey and severely punished in every other sport...

do u honestly believe it's a positive thing to encourage that type of action? I mean, don't give me the 'players emotions run wild on them, and it gets so intense'.

it happens in every sport...so why do hockey players opt to punch the face of anyone that looks at them the wrong way?

edit:^^^ there's a direct correlation between this and jock mentality...

seems like a hell of lot of anger management is needed in the NHL.

and this 'gun toting' stereotypical basketball rap has got to go...

it's like Latrell Sprewell carrying the memories of choking his ex-coach Carlisimo... everyone thinks he's a thug.

personally i think Carlesimo is a wanker and probably pushed his buttons to the point of the altercation occurring.

Has Sprewell stepped out of line since?

then how come every 6'9 person in the world isn't playing basketball? their so close to the basket they should be signing endorsements right now.

bullshit.

sport is sport.

primadonna bullshit exists in every sport and every sport has a whinning complaining bitch somewhere on the roster.

hockey is full of primadonnas holding out for $$$,complaining about ice time and being overall dickheads on a regular basis.i guess when shayne corson pouts and leaves the team it's ok,but when iverson,a guy who pound for pound is one of the toughest men in sport, speaks up about not starting he's crying? what's up with that?

also i guess it's alright for ed belfour to toss women around hotel rooms in a drunken-coke filled rage but kobe is a ego-maniacal asshole rapist because some snow-white from colorado said so.

do we even want to open the can of worms that is theo fleury?

i can agree that sports is filled with overpaid grown babies and nothing makes me happier then when some assmunch gets what is coming to him.but when you generalize an entire league on the basis of isolated incidents that happen off the court well sorry hun you come off as an ignorant tool.

hockey players are no more skilled than basketball players and vice versa, and that goes for every sport.

Why do basketball players shoot people that look at them the wrong way? Seems like a hell of a lot of anger management is needed in the NBA. ;) And I don't think Alan Iverson's rap lyrics helped shine the NBA's image, or Kobe Bryant's rape charges, or Damon Stoudamire's drug charges, or ......
