Arrived to a very packed guvernment at about 12:30. Mark Oliver was on. I'm not a big fan of the pitched up 150 bpm type stuff, but I have to admit he does have a very loyal following.
Originally heard that L & B were to go on at about 2:00 am, but the hour came and went. Just as we were considering heading out at 3:00 am, they were introduced over the mic. The stage had been set up for them in front of the raised stage area to the left of the club. Unfortunately due to poorly stationed monitors, space was a bit restricted. Hence the duo tagged on and off rather than their usual 2 x 4 tables routine.
They started off hard from the get go. Far more tech-housish and almost techno like sounds from Bushwacka. Bushwacka's skills as a producer have earned him fame, but he's no slouch on the decks. He was constantly coming through with fader and eq tricks as well as some serious scratching. Not to mention his antics are hilarious. The guy doesn't really dance he just sort of jumps up and down, waves his hand and talks to anyone within earshot.
Layo took over after about an hour and started bringing in some head-bopping tech-breaks. I recognized a couple of the tracks he dropped...Electric Tease - Your Lovin'(16B Rmx), Bushwacka's reworking of Dead Man and Chab 'Matica."
At 5 Bushwacka came back on and started pumping some bad ass basslines. Unfortunately though, by this point I was getting pretty tired and decided to head out. I heard they played till 6:00 or so.
Overall, they were very, very good. Their live sound was very different from their production sound. The overall tech-breaks content was quite low and they pretty much stayed in tech-house territory the whole night long. Technically, both very skilled and it was a shame that the crowd was unable to witness both of them on 4 decks at the same time.
