oh Skipper -- dancehall was made for groovin yo! made to loosen the techno grip and get your ass boppin to the occasion.

i thought it was a beautiful end to a beautiful night. i can't believe my legs still work today. i loved the drum & bass. that was fun. a lot of people mentioned that there wasn't a "flow" -- i thought it was flawless. a tip of the hat to a DJ that's not afraid to say I LOVE IT ALL. What a beautiful man.

chacun pour soi.
nice pics AlexD!! :)

BOOOOO to This Is London. How DARE they bring someone like Laurent or Richie Hawtin next month on a sound system that sounds like THAT.

I'm surprised Richie even agreed to spin there. SHAME.

The freakiest of freakiest - I met Babsteen when we worked together at the Aldo in *cough* North Bay back in ... '99? ish. and I knew her boyfriend François who was friends with my ex in Montreal. RANDOM. WEIRD. Awesome running into both of them.

going dancing now. i expect reconstructive surgery monday...

Didn't have any plans of going out so I had no idea who was spinning when I got there. I don't know why people were lining up. Seemed you just had to go to the guestlist entrance tell the guy you weren't on the list and he let you in, i think. A trip to the bathroom meant immediately losing all friends. Nice meeting you skipper. Had a drunken conversation with coleridge and found out who the dj was. Nice meeting Kalemic who apparently is not gay.

Anyways its a nice place but the sound was definitely not as good as some have said. As for the tunes I liked some of the techy stuff but I got lost at some point. Around 3:30 he didn't appear to be picking up the pace and i got tired of hearing music I didn't like so we left.

Agree 100%. Left around the same time you did, or shortly thereafter.

Not sure what the deal with the line up / guest list was either. "Are you on the guest list?" "No." "Okay, go ahead."

Money talks bullshit walks. That was my last time I think going to that place. the sound is shit and the crowd is too "district" for me. I always like to check out a new club though but it can't always be a winning experience.

I love when DJs play unconventional, out there, spaced out stuff. Really throws people out of the loop. Garnier has won me over.

Break on through to the other side

That Doors remix was so wicked! I get what Skipper was saying about the reggae and hip-hop. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love reggae more than anything, but it just slowed the crowd down. Not to say people weren't enjoying it, just that the crowd was dancing slower to adjust to the music.

Overall, I really enjoyed the set and hope he comes back to TO soon.

P.S. who was the dude running, literally running, around the bar? I laughed so hard every time he passed by me on one of his laps.

Got there early, no trouble getting in. Immediately felt out of place in that crowd, but hooked up with some friends inside and we tuned out the posers from there on in. At one point I remember looking up and noticing that they had left all of a sudden.

LG killed. He has such a distinctive style, his mixing and track selection sound like no one else's, and he takes you on such a journey. Everytime I thought that things were slowing down, he brought the energy back just at the right time. I liked that I never knew which direction he was going to take it at any given moment, I'm so sick of these genre slave dj's who take the straight line between A and B. Loved The Doors - "Break on Through" with the bossa beat - like they were made for each other. I loved all the music changes at the end. I kept wanting to hear what was going to come next. I'm glad I endured TIL, because it was totally worth it. Come back soon, mon gars!

ev, thanks for putting me on the guest list - getting in was easy. Sorry you go bitten. There were some strange folks there last night. One guy told my sweetie that he liked her top. She thanked him, and then he offered her some k. When she declined, he was like, "You gotta do it! You gotta!" We moved to another part of the dancefloor.

Nice to meet you mariazmess! Hard to believe you got in trouble for smoking the draw when everyone else was smoking cigs. Don't they know you need your medicine?

Anyway, feet are still sore, although my new shoes passed their inaugural test with flying colours.

hahahahaha
SERIOUSLY. get it together people!
some people do rails off the bar, some people smoke J's on the dancefloor. just cuz mine takes longer and smells more, doesn't mean i should get in trouble.

:( pout.

give me a patio and i'll gladly take it outside.

when DJs are comfortable enough with their own skills and egos to do stuff like that more props to them I say!

laurent was awesome! nobody can move through so many different genres with such ease and flow like he does. funny enough, i thought the sound was really good, at least where i was standing.

it was great to see so many familiar faces, some that haven't been out as long as i have!:p

cheers,

I thought the same thing, but didn't mention earlier since I'd read all the posts of people saying it sucked and maybe I was crazy.

The sound was excellent in any of the places I stood as well.

Very clear with some thumping bass. I noticed that if you stood near the bar it was definitely quieter, which I thought was all right cause it was possible to carry on a conversation during the lulls. Not sure what everyone else found lacking...

The reason is because if the liquor control board were to show and see that they are permitting you to smoke weed, which is illegal . . . then they get their license suspended. Without that, they have no means of making money.

As well, if security were to see someone "doing rails off the bar.” Or anywhere else in the club for that matter, they would not be told to put it away, but rather kicked out immediately.

perhaps this was the biting guy who was running around and wrestling walls?

haha wtf, that's pretty weird.

I don't actually remember seeing this guy, but now that people brought it up I think I vaguely remember someone running around.

kung po beefalicious and i went ka-blooey

there was an instrumental version of yaz - don't go
there was shabba
there was fu-schnickens

i needed to clear my throat *ahem ahem*

the sound was better than the nite from porter but it was like my ipod shuffle compared to sonic's beast the nite after

bouncers - holy fucking attitude. If y'all ain't got moves (and i SAW your attempt @ booty shaking), u can't throw no shade. Get out of my sightline and start getting use to a crowd that loves to party

LG was just awesome, wish he had a longer set. Please don't wait 2 yrs to bring this guy back

the boy and my gf left super-early but i stayed and partied anyway...weeeeeeeeeeeeeak. There were lots of party freaks (incl lotsa tribers) who kept me company

p.s. wut was up w/ the paparazzi? kudos to the camera doods that actually asked if we wanted our pix taken instead of the stalkers

thx to everyone that made this happen, i'm slowly being sold on this place

He also played some Joy division! QUOTE]

i gotta say i've had it with the joy division overkill lately...

yeah, they were/are a fantastic band that redefined music... and for geezers like me, yep, changed my life.... but seeing every freakin' techno type/indie kid/hipster lamo etc. in an unknown pleasures t-shirt lately (they're available at urban outfitters now... get yours TODAY!), is just kind of taking the piss now... no one gave a shit about this band for 20 years... and i feel like something special to me has been stolen and put up in a billboard in a mall now. sob sob.

geez. what's with my rant??? oh wait. it's sunday. sorry.

I agree with deevah about the bouncers. fuck off. They don't seem to like the raving in the club. then don't bring the best dj. was hootin and hollerin' and these two guys are all " you're making a fool of yourself, shut up." like sorry I;m not as cool as you, i'd better stand here and bob my head slightly. Crispy bacon and that doors, break on through. WICKED. LAURENT ROCKED IT

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they played "Temptation" by New Order, although I couldn't tell if it was a remix or a cover version. I don't remember any Joy Division.

And yeah, the little guy in the white shirt told my wife that she was hot, but he wasn't the same guy that offered her the k. She seemed to be very attractive to the freaks that night. (me included :D )

I saw Philly at Wallace last night and he said, "They turned me away at the door at This Is London because of the style-code."

BOO. Philly got style. Philly got more style than a lot of the peeps I know. Philly got WAY more style than the peeps at This Is London.

If Soho turned away Phil and to let in the "nice people" who were there, they've got a NO IDEA what style is. un.im.pressed.

Re: the soundsystem: it made my ears hurt. i go out a lot and my ears never hurt. my ears were ringing and i haven't had that in a long while.

Skipper

my right ear didn't just ring, but actually pained me until I woke up this morning.
the sound system was just not meant for music lovers, it's just a piece of equipment in a socialite hang out.
and the bouncers - I couldn't tell if the ones on stage were genuinely trying to dance, or making fun of this one guy in the front who was givin er and really trying to interact w/LG.

That sucks...

I read a lot of style code horror stories about TIL in previous reviews, but I noticed a great deal of no style douche bags already inside once we arrived so I'm wondering if they base their style code on the amount of people inside, the mood the bouncers are in or the behaviour of the person trying to get in.

Maybe it's like the Malibu cop in Big Lebowski... "I don't like your jerk-off name. I don't like your jerk-off face. I don't like your jerk-off behavior, and I don't like you, jerk-off. Do I make myself clear?"
