We are looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and committed individual to provide friendly employability and life skills conuselling services in our KYTES Project.

POSITION: Employability Skills Counsellor – KYTES Project
27 week contract –
February 20, 2006 – September 1, 2006

LOCATION: 1415 Bathurst Street

REPORTS TO: KYTES Coordinator

GENERAL FUNCTION:

To provide employability and life skills support to participants of the Kensington Youth Theatre Employment Service (KYTES). Accountable to the KYTES Coordinator, you are to provide one on one life skills and job maintenance counseling and support to program participants. To assist the coordinator in the development and delivery of a youth theatre project initiated by the participants. This year’s target population is young single parents, age 16 – 30.

QUALIFICATIONS:

B.A., B.S.W. or Community College Diploma in Adult Education, Employment/Career Counselling Social Work or equivalent. Two year’s experience in providing counseling and support services and conducting group workshops to disadvantaged youth. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of unemployed and disadvantaged young single parents and related social services/programs. Understanding of employment and training resources, and labour market information, daycare and parenting services relevant to young single parents. Demonstrated organizational abilities. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Superior group facilitation and workshop development skills
Multicultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial organization. Knowledge and the ability to fully utilize computerized career and job search applications and the Internet. Second language and asset.

SALARY: $38,339 for 27 weeks.
