hehehe..
well, it was mad crazy stuff to see-
it was nice seeing kooky's live set.
i loved it.
and i heard a similar tone to some of his tracks..illusion or truth..you tell me.
that was a wicked show-

juan atkins, on the other hand,
was not a good DJ.
he had a few good selections of records.
but without the god damn MIXING SKILLS,
i do not admit him as a DJ
tongue.gif

not smooth as a whole set..
(a change of genre of music)

and was a lazy ass DJ.
did not see him mixing at all.
just leaving the records on the tables.
cheap stuff..

algorithm and mike had pretty coo set.
thanks you two-
(i think they were better mixers than juan

yea...kooky was good...too bad his monitors blew on him...

Juan just sucked...and it's not so much that he has no talent behind the decks, but the problem with his set was *him*...
He seemed like he was going to fall asleep..i found it really hard to get into his set when i knew Juan himself was off in lala land...

and another thing...WTF was with the 1am last call...?? when i pay my $25 for a ticket, i expect to get my $25 worth...that means last call is at 2am and the party goes a bit longer than 4am...$25 for a party that ends at 4am is somewhat rediculous...

for the most part, the music was good...and thats all that really matters

props to the various locals that kept me moving...and props to the kooky scientist...

the 1am last call was due to the fact that the venue wasn't licenced to sell liquor and they had a temporary licence to do so, which would also explain why you had to buy a ticket first. Apparently the party ended at 4am because the staff found alot of drugs......

~sighs~

Kooky was the guy that i went to see. He kicked ass. AKufen was alright. Juan Atkins i didn't even care to see. So as far as bad mixing went. I never even heard it. The live room was really bright. It would have been nice to have them covered up somehow. I loved the venue. IT was spectacular. Lots of room and really clean. Definately different then the same 5 clubs that partys are always thrown at.

The only problem I had with the venue other then how bright it was was the way sound was set up. I'm a firm believer in the four corner sound set up. I feel that you should be surrounded by sound. Especially for techno. The machina guys had it set up as if it were jungle party.

All in all I had a good time. I saw who i wanted to see. It wasn't too packed.

Good Job

okay...so what you're saying is that the company that threw this party booked a venue for a 19+ party that wasnt fully licenced..?

iono...sounds kinda odd to me...
oh well...i guess every mistake made, is a valuable lesson to be learned...

book licenced venues.

Easter Weekend Insanity part 3

Having not been to Steamwhistle before, I wasn't sure what to expect. Walking over from Skydome, I could hear the Techno beats pounding away, getting closer you could see the lights flashing away through the windows - I got excited. Same sort of feeling as walking to the Better Living Ctr. with a full on party.

No line up to speak of but 2 thorough searchs, hand and metal detector. In the main room Ollie was doing his stuff to only a sparse crowd. Moved on the the "Live" room where Crave was dropping some cool tunes. Parked myself right up front and let the music take control. You've got to love techo crowds - everyone just standing around nodding heads and not moving!

Up next was Akufen, damn, I just loved his set! Minimal, funky, offbeat, experimental ... it all had me moving. All the while it looked like he was just reading the morning e-mail, having a cigarette and coffee. Did not want to tear myself away and check out the other room so I stayed put.
The Kooky Scientist followed with a slow build, working his way up then let loose with the driving beats. Looked like everyone went nuts, but I couln't really tell since I was too busy going nuts.

He sent out one cool banging tune after another.

I decided that I should probably go and check out Juan Atkins to see what this legend would be throwing down. Well ... the tunes were good, the mixing wasn't! Hung out for a while and went back to the "Live" room where the crowd had lessened and it was cooler. Spent the rest of my time bouncing between the rooms until the end at 4am.

That was fun. I wore out of gas mid-way through the evening: too many parties, too little rest. The venue was cool, early last-call wasn't.

As usual nice to see everyone out: @M, Ethan, Susan, Kumi, Ritika, anyone I'm not remembering, anyone I haven't met.

Kooky played an amazing set until his monitor blew,, but on the other hand Juan really surprised me this time.. His set was the not bad at all,, good track selection but I have to admit that he did look kinda lazy up there....

Over all I had fun at this party and Steam Whistle is a pretty nice space,, clean,, big,, and a venue that has not been over used... Good job NEG crew.. Hope to see u at the next party. Machina 3,, Matthew Herbert
