The most famous DJ in the world, NYC-based Junior Vasquez, has become a legend in his own time. When the Paradise Garage and The Saint both closed in the late 80s, Junior emerged as the singularly most admired and followed DJ in NYC and later, the world. He co-founded the underground Bassline club and the legendary Sound Factory, and later transported his massive following to legendary club world venues such as the Tunnel, Arena @ Palladium, Twilo, and most recently, Earth (at Exit). No other DJ in the world has held the attention of such a demanding, musically savvy dance floor for over a decade.

yeah, were not pompous or full of our selves.

Rumour has it that Junior's personal DJ Booth is off-limits to guest DJ's. They have their own DJ booth.

It's basically an apartment with deck that overlook the dancefloor. Juniors booth is high up so people can't see into it.

Rumour has it the reason for this is during his marathon 12 hour sets, he'll play pre-mixed CD's and disappear for an hour or so... but he'll deny it.

Not rumour...fact! (about the guest DJ's not using his booth, not sure about the premixed cd's).

He also has a fetish the the Urie Cloud 9 mixer which is no longer produced (apparently he buys up all the used ones he can find to use for parts).

He's a drama queen as far as I'm concerned, and not even that great of a DJ.

Cheers,

Derek

Actually I think that's the Urei 1620 mixer, legendary mixer.

The Cloud 9 mixer is completely different, made by Cloud ... it's a concert type board.

I saw his booth when I was in NYC in October, just after the recent renovations, in fact it was the grand reopening..

$35 US to get in on a Friday... with dj's Johnny Viscous (guest) and the resident Tony Draper (or something like that).

Junior's booth is on the second floor, looking over the dancefloor and it is long (width wide) with lots of room to manouver. it has 3 1200's I believe and a whole bunch of other stuff... nice lockable door to keep the trainspotters out.... the whole booth is surrounded by glass or plastic so you can watch but not bug him.

From what I remember it looked quite functional, nothing out of this world as far as crazy looking gadgets or decorations.

If you want to see a sweet booth check out the booth at Centrofly I believe there is a picture at gsany.com the sound guys who designed the sound system at ministry of sound/centrofly and part of the team who did the Paradise Garage and the Twilight Zone in Toronto.

But even better check out the new booth at Ministry of sound.. it is phenonenal with up to 8 Turntables at one time and tonnes of gadgets.... they are even planning to go 5.1 SURROUND sound eventually. wow. read about it in a magazine a while back

actually... he has a little waiting area for friends he lets in. Plus he's got a fridge there too I think.

that club is crazy though. they drop snowflakes from the ceiling to cool you off, and the light show is crazy. There is like 7+ rooms of different music. plus a VIP room that is super posh.

definetly one of the top clubs in the world, design-wise. Although I still think Stereo and Guvernment is better for sound. But the sound still kills 99% of clubs in toronto.

Diva Alert!
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, what an ego!

On an unrelated note, the djs at the palace in guelph here who (as I've been told) yell "fuuuuuucccckkkkk yyyoooooooooooouuu!" during good track (bootylicious), what the hell is that, why would anyone want to be insulted during a good song?

Yeah fuck me! what a good song, this dj is the best.
