what can i say about this event.... system looks a lot nicer with the slight renovation. the bar at the back cuts down sketchiness at least 80%. quite a nice touch.

as we first arrive, i am shocked at how empty it was. it wasn't actually empty, just empty for system with a headliner. so all in all, it was the perfect amount of people. it didn't get too hot and you could dance just about anywhere without being bumped into. i guess i was just expecting to have the place rammed to the point of me going insane like it usually is.

so we start off by checking out jeanine hopper in the back room. no one was really in there, which was such a shame. she was wicked. so many vocals!!! absolute treat. so she played there until about 1:30. then it was off to check out junior sanchez. now i wasn't expecting much and for the first little while it was fairly boring as i was expecting, so i dipped into the vip room to catch some sweet tunes ranging from old michael jackson tunes to new house tracks. then jeanine hopper switched over to the decks and laid down some more sweet vocals. i took a break for a bit in there and went back to the main room to find out that junior stopped sucking. he had some wicked tunes. mixing was pretty good. nothing spectacular, but it was pretty good and i was drunk, so i was a whole lot less picky. i was nicely surprised by his set.

for those that know me, they know i don't dance very often, mostly because i'm usually too drunk to have any sort of balance, and partially because i forgot how. but somehow i managed to muster enough coordination and guts to shake my ass around the dance floor looking like a tool for most of the night. so if you saw a goofy looking guy in a baby blue short sleeve shirt dancing like an idiot, it was me.

to make this long story short, it was a great night of drinks, tunes and plenty of dancing space. i definitely had a blast.

This was my first time at System on a Saturday. I'm from London and was in town for the night and decided to check out Sanchez who I'd never heard before.

System DID seem "empty" (read: manageable and nicely spaced out) but that was in comparison to last time I was there, when the renovations were still being done. I really liked the back bar - having a bar on basically every side of the dance floor really eliminated a lot of the congestion at the other two bars. Sanchez, I thought, went up and down for most of his set. Sounded like he was changing style every 20 mins or so to try and get a feel for what the crowd wanted. I really liked the sample from boogie nights - "Do you like bass? Do you like bass, in yo face? Yeh, that's what I'm talkin about right there." I wasn't disappointed with his set, but I wasn't blown away either.

I did like all the room to dance, and how cool it was in there. Lots of cool air being pumped in!

I'm glad I went, and I wish I could check out Donald Glaude next weekend. Cant wait to hear the reviews!

and for the record, this night went down as my most fun evening at system since back in the days of lifeforce fridays.

he got a lot better as the night went on. i thought he sucked up the first half of his set, luckily the vip room was totally kicking while that stuff was going down
