'Tis the jaded one to give you another report.

Don't believe the hype.....in my opinion!

Sure the Judge came to rock the set at Tonic. I've never heard him spin before. Methinks that instead of Judge Jules.......Judge Judy showed up. The place didn't fill up until quite late in the evening.

There was some techno, some housey stuff, and a wee bit of trance....but I couldn't understand his programming. There wasn't a flow to the disks that were chosen. I got lost somewhere between his record jackets and the lint that had built up on the 1200 needle. The best I could do was vibe off of the crowd who appeared to be in love with the DJ. I believe that there are better DJ's out there to love. Perhaps the folks in the UK know something I don't know........

Sure there were some grooves.....some moments of clarity.....a few seconds of elatation........but after all the magazines and articles I have read about this guy......I couldn't help but feel like he fell short. Was it just me or did the BPM's fluctuate up and down without steady succession?

By this time I kept my feet moving and body shuffling just because I felt like I should soak up the good time around me. It sure wasn't the tunes that had me jiving. Time for another drink.......

But what do I know?

The prosecution against the Judge rests your honor.

Yes I did see her! RED BRA right? She was going nuts......bumping into people and grinding with some dude.

That was probably the TSN highlight of the night.

Bra girl started her antics pretty early in the night but I think her boy/dude was loving it!

I had a wicked time but Judge Jules set was not exactly what I was expecting, but whatever still had FUN!

(black bra, right?)

did you see the girl who took off her shirt (white bra) at the beginning of the night? was dancing with the black bra chick (i think). then shoved her like 10 meters across the room.

both chicks had horndogs flocking to them like flies to rotting carcasses...

Aside from my "incident":

I really enjoyed Judge Jules. He always seems to offer a unique selection of tracks. I'll agree that his sets are generally lacking in flow, and he's not one of those DJs who takes you on a journey. But Jules has a knack for consistently laying down bangin' dance music all night to make up for it.

Apparently it was Jules' birthday as well on Wednesday. My girlfriend decided to pass him a crude birthday card written on a napkin. How random. :)

I think with DJs like Jules, you either hate em or love em. Personally I loved his set last night - much better than the one he played at Guvernment earlier this year. Closer to what he plays in the UK though he still has a better set over there. Anyway he played a lot of tracks I love and yeah so maybe there wasn't a definite flow to his program but hey if he had the crowd movin' and dancin' then that's what matters. Too many DJs try to be too technical and end up never getting the crowd going. If there's one thing that Jules does, it's getting the crowd hyped. His antics behind the decks and his genuine enthusiasm is infectiuous. It was good to see a nice crowd out and one that responded to his energy. Everyone looked like they were having a great time and dancing up a storm. So whether his mixing was off or his track selection wasn't perfect - he had the crowd going and to me that's what made it such a great night. Good job by Myka warming the crowd up as well as keeping it going with some hard tracks after Jules was done. It's been awhile since I've been to Tonic and I have to say it was one of the best nights I've had there.

Peace,

Trigger

LOL. So now you decide to start posting. ;)

Well Judge Jules was fun. He kept me wanting to stay longer even though I was dead tired. But the energy of the tracks just kept getting better and better.

Cheers ... Ian :)

Definitely. Couldn't agree more that Toronto has an amazing pool of DJ talent that for the most part are constrained to a few clubs within the tee dot. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we are so lucky to have such great local talent like Myka, Deko-ze, Addy, Evil P and others but outside of Toronto and local areas, they're not known. In a way I'm glad they're not jet-setting around the world as there'd be less of them to hear on a constant basis but definitely props to our local talent. You'd be hard pressed to find what we have in most other cities.

Bra girl- I'm glad she got kicked out.... or I was gonna punch her. In fact, there were way too many annoying people there last nite, but she took the prize.

I guess his set was more reminiscent of his radio shows, with all the various styles of music. I had the pleasure of seeing him play an AMAZING set in Miami at the WMC, where he played 2 hours of solid, hard, bangin' tech-trance, & it was amazing. He came close to pulling it off again when he was here in May at the Guv, but it was lacking a certain something- it just never reached that level of perfection for some reason. I prefer those solid sets over the variety show. One thing is certain- he knows how to get the crowd going....
