Johnny Rotten on Politically Incorrect

Did anybody see this last night?

He was sitting opposite a republican strategist and he wouldn't let her speak! He was so rude to her and showed a massive display of punk-ass attitude. My jaw dropped while watching it. Bill Maher even had to tell him to can it on the show.

They were talking about how the Victims fund for WTC is set on a sliding scale. Meaning that the families of victims who made more money, will get more money. Instead of every victim getting the same amount of money.

Thoughts on the show? Or the topic?

Ming.

I suppose they're attempting to preserve as much as possible, the accustomed lifestyles of the victim's families. People with higher incomes usually have higher expenses too.

Well.....I think that payments should be partly proportional to salery. After all, families of people who made more money would have gotten that money in the future. It doens;t matter that in some person;s opinion they don;t NEED that money.

Someone working at McDonald's making minumum wage can look at a CEO of a bank making millions and say 'what do they need the money for' Likewise there are hundreds of millions of people in the world that could look at that same McDonalds employee and say THEY are making more money then they need.

Some victims of the attacks would have made more money in the future then others would have, and payments should partially reflect that.

... I would also like to add that Johnny Rotten was on Judge Judy a while ago. He was being sued by his drummer. He was pretty sketchy.

Yes... I think it should also depend on what fund they are taking about. Any Red Cross funds, etc should be distributed the way all their previous funds have been distributed.
... but the governemt payment should reflect income.

that's hilarious.

the sex pistols toured a few years ago, (sans sid of course,) and i remember reading in an interview in rolling stone that johnny would make cum sandwiches for the other members of the band. they didn't know about it, he just thought it was really funny that they were eating his semen completely unaware. hyuk.

he's an angry 3 year old trapped in a rapidly aging adult's body.

As bad as it sounds... I'm honestly starting to lose sympathy for some of the victim's families of the WTC attack.

According to the payment plan, the minimum payout that any of them will receive is over $300,000 and the average payout is $1.65 million.

What really killed me was seeing in the news how some families (as many as 1000 people) are planning a rally to demand even more money because they feel that they're not getting enough. Well deal with it! People lose their loved ones every day, some in more tragic ways than others. Here, the government is giving out billions of dollars and some people still have the nerve to ask for more. That's sick.

I believe it was the Victims' fund that the federal government has.It wasn'tone of the chartiy funds.

I partly agree with you guys about the standard of living. The argument against it was that nothing is certain and there is no surety that they would have continued tomake the same amount of money. In any case, the fund is worth $4 billion . That, added to all the other charity funds should be enough to take care of everyone.

No one saw this show? God, Johnny Rotten is such a punk!

Those figures surpried me, but that's because I never thought about it. Now that I think about it it's really not all that much. We're talking about someone who died. They could be the source of income for their family prior to their death. A lot of these victims were making a very high salaries I am sure (given where they worked) and to have this income stop all of a sudden for their family it could be very difficult (ie. paying off mortgages for their panthhouse apartments etc.).

John Lydon was one of my heros back in high school..

He does tend to rant, but man he is hilarious...

He's had a pretty ruff life...

Did he have anything good to say?
Anything intelligent to say?

The story about cum sandwiches refers to Glenn Matlock, the original bassist before SID..

John hated him and I believe Steve Jones (guitatist) used to squirt into Glenn's sandwhiches...

At least that's what John's book has to say..

You guys have made a point for the sliding scale, but it's sad really, that even in death the richer get richer and the poorer get poorer.

Now we're giving money to people so they can continue affording their country clubs and Lexus luxury SUV's. Meanwhile the family that subsisted on Kraft Dinner three nights a week won't be getting a leg up...

Oh well, at least with daddy buried under one hundred million tonnes of rubble there will be more KD for little Billy.

What, you had some to begin with?

A one-time 1.5 million payout. You don't think that's fair, considering what the deceased (who was most likely a lawyer, insurance broker or trader) would have brought in for his FAMILY in the remainder of his life, which by the way was cut drastically short, leaving a grieving family behind?

And I think the Mo' Money rally you speak of is probably protesting the fact that much of the money that is intended for the families is being tied up in the inevitable red tape.

Well, it's not that he wasn't making a good point, he was just so rude, and he was going on and on, while this poor girl hadn't even stated her opinion yet, she had time to open her mouth and he was all in her face. Like actually standing up, in her face.

He was pretty rude, rough life or not, all people deserve respect. Republican or not.

I hate to go totally into numbers because it really takes away from the horror of Sept 11t... and there's no denying that what they've had to go through has been terrible to say the least, but I guess I just see it as being a little out of proportion.

And it wouldn't even bother me if it weren't for those who are complaining that it's not enough already, and that they deserve more. That's what I have a lot of trouble understanding.

pete, what makes you think that the people organizing this protest are asking for more money?

everything i've seen on it has said they're trying to convince the overseer of the fund to change some of the rules that they say discriminate against families of deceased rescue workers, or families that lost women, lower income families and stuff like that.

Not to put words in Pete's mouth, but I don't think he's debating the fact that it would be nice to make sure that when someone dies their family is taken care of by the government (as some of you seem to be stuck on arguing). However this is NOT what happens normally.
What I think is being said is that sure, the families of those killed are losing out on income. But isn't ANY family who suffers the loss of a family member left in the same situation? You can bet the government won't be dishing out 1.6 to everyonme who dies. Does the fact that they died in such a manner mean that they should be entitled to lost money that those who did not die in such circumstances would not?

I hadn't thought about it before but I think I'm with Pete on this one.

in northern ireland there is a compensation fund for anyone who is killed or injured cause of sectarian violence.

it's not as unheard of as you guys think.

and it's not 'free' pie mingster, it's 'dead member of the family' pie.

Because that's what I remember reading in other reports... although the only one that I can find is the National Post's.

That depends on the policy. Some policies don't cover "acts of war".

jungleboy, any money that the families would get from pension or life insurance funds is deducted from the amount they get from the compensation fund.
