The ideal candidate will have sold Internet, I.T. or related products and services and will independently prospect, qualify and close sales.     Technical Support Representative

    Pathway Communications offers a full range of Internet solutions, including high-speed, ISDN and dial-up Internet access to both the business and residential markets across GTA.

    We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to join our growing team for various shifts (days, evenings, weekends and holidays).

    These positions require a good understanding of the following technologies;

    The Position

    The Technical Service Representative works directly with customers to ensure a high standard of service, while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction when answering inquiries regarding product and service provided by Pathway Communications.

    The key roles of a Technical Support Representative are -
    Field inbound telephone calls from customers and address the questions/queries to resolve them in a professional/polite and competent manner.

    Review a number of client facing email boxes for any emailed questions or queries, these will be answered as professionally as indicated above.

    Log all technical assistance given to clients within a proprietary trouble ticket system without fails

    Monitor voicemail boxes for any reported issues and resolve these issues.

    Monitor through a network portal, the Pathway Communications client network and proactively call/escalate as necessary
    Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    Operating systems;

    Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Me, NT 4, Win 2000 and Win XP

    Macintosh OS 7.5 and up is desirable.

    Unix (An idea of what Unix is)


    Internal 'hardware and software' dial-up modem installation, DSL modem installation, configuration and setup.

    Excellent written and oral skills with a strong attention to detail and an aptitude for multi-tasking

    An idea of Bridges, Routers, Switches and hubs.


    Browsers - IE and NS versions 3 and up.

    Outlook Express, Internet Mail, Eudora

    WS_FTP Lite or any FTP client application

    PPPoE dialers of any flavour, WinPoET/ Enternet 300/

    MS Office

    Dial up networking, RAS

    Control panel, Networking, Modems, System File Checker (SFC),
    inetwiz, DOS prompt, telnet & SSH (Desirable) amongst others.

    Connection technologies; (An overview and basic understanding is required)


    Multi Chassis Dial-up.



    Wireless LAN hardware and configuration connections (Desirable).

    Networking fundamentals;

    DNS, domain management, registration and hosting services.

    Email - pop and smtp

    Telnet. SSH.

    Can use "ping", "nslookup", "whois" and know when to use them.

    You would know what these refer too; port 21, port 23, port 25, port 110.


    Minimum secondary school diploma

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Interest in Technology and personal development drive and ambition.

    Desire to maximize all opportunities presented to them.

    Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment

    A happy and outgoing approach to their work.

    Enthusiastic team player

    Umm.. I have all those skills and 7 years experience.

    They cant afford me anyhow... so why would I even check.

    I know.

    I'm also feeling a bit ruff from yesterday drinkfest... so I'm a little bitter too.

    Why cant Job Postings show the salary brackets they are expecting. It's so simple.

    The expect salary I could guess is 35-40K.

  9. It increases the likelihood that you'll undersell yourself in order to get the work.

    I disapprove of it highly as well.
