i believe this was his fourth time in toronto and the third time i've seen him.
this set was a good opportunity to see him a bit more up-close, and i noticed some things that i hadn't at places like Footwork or the Great Hall in the past. i will go out on a limb here and say that jimpster is part of the last generation of truly professional DJs.
he is attentive to the crowd, with his chin up. the tracks he played on friday speak to a love for jazz and disco over top of a progressive rush that keeps the dancefloor moving until the end.
he knows his tracks inside out- most likely because he either made them, released them, or is somehow connected to the producers who made them. when a new song comes in, the key of the song often has a relation to the previous one.
to me, there is no one more central to that chilled out, deep house sound, which is possibly disappearing if you look at the scene overall.
i find that most of the tracks he picks out have an exotic slant to them. maybe it's a regional thing, or possibly a generational one, but it's always a pleasure when folks here bring him in to play. so thank you houseaddict and bound by sound.
