boarding is fun for sure, but then you're back to paying 50 bucks plus gas to ride down an icy speedbump.

I haven't been for a couple of years... that speedbump is looking more and more inviting!

I know I know. Blue mountain sucks compared to other places, but a fresh day of snow there can make it really good -amazing even. An early bird season's pass is only $160, and I've been up about 8-9 times so far this year making it very economical. Gas - sure. But not more than $10-$20 there and back in a 4 banger. If you got the gear, there's no real reason not to.

for me i've been in the philippines since november and to come back to winter is always tough (i've been successfully been able to avoid the majority of it the last few years)

i truly love Canada with every fiber of my being except for having to deal with snow and cold. my wife will be moving over from the Phils this year and the plan is for her to try out Canada for a couple of years and if she cant hack it then we pack up and move to the Phils - she doesn't want to really leave there in the first place but has always wanted to "visit Alaska" and I told her here is pretty much the same thing :)

but to some of the points raised already, its more of an issue of me needing to find something to do outside during the winter - in the summer i can mountainbike everyday and here, maybe its time to take up snowboarding

I have post Mexico depresion

i actually had a really hard time the week after cuba, i couldn't concentrate on anything.

I'm with the February's better than March crowd, though one of my reasons was that there's no holidays in Feb, so now that there is one that's out. March often has Easter, tho sometimes it's in April. It also has St Patrick's day, which is a a sodden blast of fun, but most importantly - February is still cold and dark and so far from spring, whereas, like Elektron says, march always has around a full week's worth of gorgeous weather! You can't forget that spring is just around the corner on those March days where it's bright and sunny and 15 to 20 above. (I checked last March, actually, and it did get up to 20!)

guess who's a virgo.

""

are pisceans total jerks by nature, too? i bet they are.

:p

lol

yeah, I know a virgo pretty well too :D he's entirely logical and methodical about everything. Sooooo reasonable.

Pisceans by nature, I think, are totally mental and overly sensitive about everything. Not like me.

Deveator, I have post Mexico depression too. Time to plan the next trip!! Jess???

Skating is free at most places in the city, same with toboganning (not sure if you count that as a sport)

Also, it's usually clear enough for a nice walk or bike ride.

All free.

i decided to take up snowboarding this year. while it's been an adventure in learning a new sport, it's also been an adventure in maxxing out my bank account!

:p

though you're right, the things you mentioned are definitely free. :)

I'm doing much better this year than last year. It's amazing the difference really. I've been taking a multivitamin for about 8 months now, and I'm pretty sure the vitamin D intake has knocked my SAD out. w00t

yeah i have to take Vitamin D says my doctor.

My friend who is studying to become a nutritionist tells me to take it at night time bc these types of supplements like Vit D, calcium, magnesium are all natural tranquilizers and will help me relax and sleep better. Im bad with taking pills and i don't keep on it..so i haven't taking these in a month..i've just started taking them again recently.

Yeah, skating is nice, but something like skiing or boarding can change your perspective on winter completely -to the extent that you wish it were longer and started sooner. Definitely expensive to ramp into and without a season's pass, but one's winter sanity is worth it I think.

I remember when you had just started snowboarding a few years ago...I knew you'd fall in love! :) yeah, snowboarding basically saved my life...I knew it was something special when I began skipping the Saturday night parties in Toronto for Blue Mountain. Getting out and doing something physical, increasing vitamin d, eating well, sufficient sleep...these will all help. Get out with friends, go out for dinner once a week, volunteer somewhere....but have your lazy stay in and watch movies and eat swiss chalet days too. No fake n bake for me....i like my pale skin thank you :p
Winter is lovely, so enjoy it!
