It should be mandatory for all clubs in Toronto...

Although I'm sure that smoking in washroom stalls will increase in the beginning.

I guess we'll see.

There is no-smoking allowed in bars as of June 1st 2004.

At least, that is what Vote Quimby posted.

I think that bars may be allowed to have a designated no-smoking area that is well ventilated (like restaurants do), but not exactly sure.

edit: and there will still be smoking allowed on patios i think

I believe you're wrong. No smoking will mean no smoking. No special rooms, no giant exhaust, nothing. You want to smoke, you go outside.

Awesome...I didn't know that Toronto had passed a bylaw as well. I thought that is was just a few of the suburbs.

There will be no smoking indoors in any bar or restaurant or club. That includes the special ventilated area that bars built.

Outdoors is still fine.

u literally can't see anything in front of you, the whole club fills up with white and then they use this really mad crazy lighting (strobelights/lasers/floodlights whatever) that just funks you up (hard for me to describe cause i know fuck all about lighting)...i dunno ive never seen it b4 i went to wmc and it looked really really cool (and i usually dont give a fuck about lighting in a club)

when it came on in the club everyone was going mad...it really added to the clubbing experience...

Idiot? That would also mean the rest of the non-smokers here who believed the complete non-smoking ban would be in effect are also idiots who had their hopes up.

You'll still smell my smoke, don't worry; the ventilation technology has been proven not to work! Ha!

Who's the loser now? :)

Specifically that you thought a club would actually get shut down on the same night for a smoking infraction.

yeah, i'm really going to believe your generalities about ventilation technology.

i see how well substantiated your statements are.
you must be right *rolleyes*

Who's the loser now? :)

you.
i thought we already covered that.

I really wonder if the clubs are going to have to comply with this by-law. Unlike a typical bar where you can just walk in off the street and buy a drink, most clubs charge you money to enter. Since you are paying a cover charge, the club is no longer considered to be "open to the public", but only open to members (ie: paying customers).

BTW, if a private party rents out a restaurant, they are allowed to smoke if they choose to do so.

Cheers ... Ian :)

Ian, I think that a cover charge is different from a membership fee, although I'm sure you'll see some private clubs spring up as well.

I was wondering that too, but I don't think members are equivalent to paying customers. We'll just have to wait and see.

I know I used to work in the restaurant industry too :)
I'm pretty sure the point is that the employees can choose not to work when those private parties are booked. Generally where I worked we had many waiters that were smokers and didn't mind working those private smoking functions. And everyone split tips at the end of the day anyway.

So we never broke the by-law

edit: too many smileys!

It's gonna be almost impossible for people to smoke doobs in clubs now if there isno other smoke.

The visual signs, not to mention the smell.
Yikes.

What I find to be such a farce with this whole thing is that if the marijuana decriminilization bill passes (or has it?), the maximum fine for smoking a joint will be $55 cheaper than the minimum fine for smoking a cigarette ($205).

So you'll be safer trying to smoke a joint in a club than a cigarette. ;)

Cheers ... Ian :)

Lockers are not usually preferred by clubs, partially due to the fact that they facilitate the sale of drugs.

Once inside the club, dealers can divy up their drug stash for customers and place them into several lockers. Then they can sell the customer a key to one of the lockers. The customer can then go and open up the locker and get what he/she paid for. That way the dealer has nothing on himself/herself in the event that security sees a "transaction" occur.

Cheers ... Ian :)

I would have pulverized his ass with the broken glass.
