ipod backup software: what should I use?

I need to back up my 160 gb ipod with some shareware or freeware. I installed a new operating system on my laptop due to a hard drive failure, so my itunes connectivity to it doesn't exist any more.

I am also kind of paranoid about plugging it into the laptop in case itunes wipes everything that is on it now. This happened to me a few years ago when itunes decided to give me a fresh new ipod to use and it was a nightmare.

Can anyone recommend some free 3rd party software I can use to back up the ipod just in case?

I found something here called idump2013. If I recall, I used an older version of this before and it seemed to work OK.
