Why would the news (mainstream) report this?
Who cares that internet traffic out of syria is down?
How is this news?
Nobody has cared about Syria for 2+ years. Until something major happens, nobody will. And by major I mean even more major than kids being sniped to death, or even chem warfare on civilians. This is a bonafide atrocity but the fact is - who cares? nobody.
I mean, I do, you might, but nobody who can do anything cares.

Just because .sy resolution does not work, nor that a few IP addresses (82.137.192.0/18) are not reachable does not mean the country has gone dark. It is late and I am tired, so I'm not going to chase down connectivity verification info for Syria, so I could be completely off base.

Ugh, still up, but wanted to add that yes, many of the IP addresses registered within Syria appear to be down. However, due to the nature of the Internet, just because the IP block is documented for use in place X, does not mean there cannot be other IP's documented somewhere else being used in place X. Anyway, my hunch is this is a Syrian government move to censor info. Guess folks have better crypto than expected.
