I'm tanorexic

I went fake and baking *just once* and already I'm feeling great.

I love sitting in the sun, I love tanning and I love being dark.

I'm truly tanorexic - I can never get enough sun.

Sigh. Too bad it's so bad for me :*(

I love the feeling you get when you leave a tanning salon...like you've just been gone for a long time, when in reality it was 10 minutes. Too bad tanning is so bad for you.

I used to go tanning (for free at the gym) and I find it makes me feel really gros. It also makes you smell like you're cooked.

And places like "Fabutan" don't make it any less tempting when they offer unlimited tanning for 30 bones.

Sweet merciful jesus.

It's like putting an unlimited buffet of lobster in front of me. Except the lobster causes cancer.

I love love love it.

I always start going in April every year because the summer clothes are on sale, and I feel compelled to do something about my pastiness before it gets warm enough to actually have to bare my legs to the world.

I think I have a nice glow right now....not too fake, but not too pasty either.

Do you tan naked or with a bathing suit or something on?

Whe I would go, I would wear my underwear.I was always afraid of either getting a burn on my twig and berries or getting cancer of the weiner.

Yeah, but honestly it's no more than most people get in the summer.

(I don't tan outside at all)

I protect my face and hands, and swenard - I tan naked.

I once was going into the salon when this dude was walking out after a half hour session  He had gone completely naked and was already feeling the pain.

Poor son of a bitch - I can't imagine how he must have felt the next day. Ag.

i enjoy being pale. i enjoy sunscreen. i enjoy the fact that i (hopefully) won't have wrinkles and skin cancer at 40 :p i do not like tanning for tanning's sake. nothing could be more boring to me than lying on a beach and getting burned by the sun's radiation.

but, that being said, i always get all excited once i see that i am not the colour of paper anymore...but no way am i going to just sit there. tanning while window shopping...or at an outdoor festival....much more fun :)

AARGHHH!!!

Tanning Salons are SO VERY BAD FOR YOU!!!

It's bad enough that people don't wear sunscreen when they are outside...but actually subjecting your skin to a KNOWN cancer causing agent (UV light) is just plain silly!

Never mind the fact that it greatly increases your risk for skin cancer.....it also makes you look like an alligator by the time you are 40 years old

Ok...I am done with lecturing....I know that everyone that goes to a tanning salon realizes it's not good for them. I guess it's the same as smoking really. If you don't experience the harmful effects right now.... they are easy to put out of your mind.

My question is....why not use a self tanner? Yes...that's right...tan out of a bottle. Back in the day they used to leave a really hideous orange coloured tan...but now a days, they are much better. Especially if you are willing to spend a little more $$ on them. I have a friend that uses the one from Clinique and you honestly can't tell the difference.

;)echo<====has seen alot of terrible things working in the cancer field.

Don't justify it Girlfriend.
I'm rather get a little colour from natural sun (even if it's bad) than going to a tanning salon, anyday. Besides, the natural look is way better!

NOW STOP GOING!

PROMISE!!!

FYI

well, to nicely tie this comment in with another thread, I have tanned a few times and always naked plus I brazilian wax, and, well, there have been no problems there. So if I didn't burn my freshly waxed-ness (and I am really naturally pale and burn easily) your boys are probably OK...

granted, I only have ever gone 5 minutes (Stand up), not longer... which is apparently shorter than the average tanning visit.

How do you protect the hands, do you wear gloves in there?

My post was due to the fact that a lot of those companies might skew the facts in their favour when asked about studies that show that tanning is harmful.

There's evidence on both sides, and i was just talking about the danger of encountering bullshit.

No offence was intended.

Cheers. -D

I wish I tanned. I'm so pale i'm see-through.

I'm sure you're not like a friend of mine - she's like one of those -biology bodies that has no skin, you can see even the tiniest veins and caps under her translucent skin!

(weird thing. I just realized that pic i just posted from google came from www.tall.org. Myt ex was a member of that nyc club and we used to go to the parties in windows on the world in the WTC. that's some fucked up shit)

Anywhore, I'm radiating heat right now.

I think people (wrongly) associate EVERYONE who goes to a tanning salon with those women you see with the really dark tan, starting to crinkle, with white rings around their eyes from the goggles and white patches under their arms.

This is not true of every tanning salon patron!!

Personally, I only tan regularly in the spring months, and it's only for a little glow. Nothing MAJOR like you might imagine. I also might go for a few sessions if I have an important formal coming up. But it's only to take the edge of pastiness away!

I also protect my face everyday by using an SPF moisturizer. I bet a lot of y'all don't do that! The sun can reach you anywhere....while driving in your car, while out enjoying a patio, while walking to work. Just because you don't go to a tanning salon doesn't mean you are safe from the sun or will successfully avoid skin cancer.

Sorry about the rant, I'm just tired of the tanning salon sterotypes making a bad name for the rest of us. :p

M-boy, no offence was taken. :) I know in my case it's true - most people get more harmful rays in the summer than me, even tho I fake and bake occasionally.

I fucking hate reading some of the garbage they have posted in the salons. It's would be amusing if only people didn't believe it.

Fortunately, I tan very easily and quickly, so I don't have to go often to get my tanorexic fix.
