I'm Going To Fire Bomb My School

Why is it that university administration don't tell you important information until after the fact
It's so true that once they have your money they really don't care about you anymore
After 4 years of dumping money into the school ... you'd figure they'd at least be able to be blunt with me and not give me the run-a-round
Well enough is enough ... those money hungry greedy sons of a bitches are going to feel my rath!

No where in the course calander or whatever does it say that you need to be in Honours Geography to receive a minor in another subject
So I worked my ass off ... got good marks in my History courses so I could get a minor
I filled out all the papers ... got all the signatures and thought it was all good
I was happy ... I was going to graduate with my minor
But then I got a phone call this morning telling me that I can't graduate with a minor because I'm not going to be graduating with honours
I looked over eveything ... and no where does it say this!
Then I looked into it ... and my average is off 1% to be considered for Honours
I just figured that someone along the line when I was trying to get my minor would inform me of this invisible stipulation taht you have to be in honours

can you appeal the decision disco stu?

you might be able to get them to scooch the mark up, since it's only one percent.

look into it.

That's what I'm going to try next ... I was going to go talk to my undergrad advisor today ... but she's away until Monday ... so I have to wait until then :(

I'm in the honours program myself, quite the party. I found out the other day that if all your credits totalled (well in my subject area) aren't over 70 they just don't give you the honours regardless if you took that year of classes or not. Simple as that. I'm not that concerned cuz my avg is over 75 now, but what the hell. How crazy is that. I guess its a fact of life.

Good luck guy!

are you taking any courses this semester for your major? because you might not have to worry about appealing the 1% if you do well enough. I know how it is to be screwed around by the university. i got a letter half way through second semester saying i was 1 credit short of my required courses, i am appealing because i think they should give you enough notice in order to pick up the course, however, if not i will be taking a summer course and graduating in the fall instead of the spring, which sucks, also you could take up a summer course in your required field and postpone graduating until you have the 1% to get your honours degree....its seems like such a waste not to get it if you're that close

good luck

I am ... the only problem is that it is an average of 20 classes
So one class isn't going to bring my mark up 1% unless I get a high 80 or low 90 ... and I think I was pulling off an 84% in that class or something close to that ... so I don't think it's going to pull my average up 1% :(

Stu, try and find someone who has had this happen to them at your school. When my school tried to fuck me over, I found other people that had the same problem and appealed it, so the school just ended up caving.

They weren't going to give me credit for a class because I didn't take both semesters of it, allthough that was never mentioned, and they had to lie to us to get us to take it.

So now there is no more east wing at my old campus (fire away).

What I love the most about my university days was the idea that they were actually preparing you for life.

Five years later I looked back and discovered with no small amount of chagrin and irony that post secondary education of any kind in no way 'prepares' you for life. That the twisted, little idiocyncratic rules they set up are in any way valuable to you latter on.

Ten years later (and having just received my reunion letter) I realize that university was merely more schooling to keep young adults busy so we don't rise up, rebel, and kill our parents during the most volitile years of our adult life. Instead of hacking out our new world we chase after percentage marks, instead of taking what could be our we still wait to be graded.

Jaded? Me?
