She was giving a speech for some sort of a "call out to kids" program, i think.
It was at Bingamans park.

I had a really good time. She shared alot of what happened to her in her career and related it to how we can all be better people, and how to talk to kids and helop make a positve impact on them, and those less fortunate.

Things I didn't know/remember:

She won the pairs rowing Bronze medal at the 1984 games with her sister(who got silken involved in rowing)

Totally severed her calf muscle 10 weeks before winning the bronze medal at the 1992 games in barcelona. Didn't get out of the hospital for 3 and a half weeks, could barely walk when the olymipcs took place.

So all in all I had a great time, Silken was informative and thought provoking, made me feel good about myself, and pretty funny as well. And we got to hold a silver medal

Alos learned that Marshall Hall in Bingamans park would be a great place to have a party.

yeah she was starting t0o cry last night, telling some real touching stories about how she totally had to change her focus when she had kids, and the first time she held them.

BTW, she would flip her boat over waaay to many times when she started. She said she set the record in her first year for most tips.

did she use that line about how her leg injury was so completely devastating, but didn't even come close to the pain of childbirth?

its stories like those that make the "ADOPT!ADOPT!" sign in my head start flashing.

She was one of my idols in high school.

When she came to visit my team at uni I was so excited.
She was pretty inspirational, but or team lost anyway... we sucked ass cuz we were a lightwieght team among a bunch not so lightwieght girls

For Sure!

But the pain would all be worth it.

Glad I don't have to go through it.
