I want to build a terrarium

Anyone know anything about that kind of thing? Like useful hints.

Plus a good place to get large carnivorous insects like scorpions and spiders.

I feel the need for a pet.

Isn't a terrarium when it's totally air sealed and self-sufficient?

I had a little one in a fish bowl when I was a kid.

Just a bunch of plants in a jar basically. :)

what you want is an ant farm:

TH43B41.gif

"Ant Farm
Fill two or more bottles with soil and add tiny amounts of water. Connect your bottles with plastic hose. Put small holes in the hose and bottle lids. Make sure the holes are too small for ants to fit through.
Collect as many ants as you can. You can do this by leaving some honey and sugar in the bottom of an old jar next to an ant nest. You might even consider digging up a nest. If you want your farm to last a long time, you'll need to capture the queen ant.

Place as many captured ants (all from the same nest) as possible into your farm and then replace the lid. Every second day, open the lids and drop small portions of honey, water, sugar and bread.

I once got a few useful books from the Library, but they were in regards to the plants only.

Worth a look tho.

Ant Farm!

I have the housing kit for an ant farm, but I can't get the ants. Apparently I can order ants from the states but it is illegal for them to send me the mother queen ant, which is what I want because come on.. she makes the babies which is the most interesting part! :p

I was told that the best time to dig up the queen ant was early Spring.. but it doesn't seem like it would be an easy task!

Anyone here already have an ant farm?

SB

PS. I would LOVE to have a doggie... but I can't really afford one right now. :(

Christ, if you could sustain your sea monkeys in a closet alone for months, I'm sure you'd be able to raise a terrarium family just fine.

<--- this tearer isn't going in any terrarium

when i was little i had a record that had this song on it:

i have a terrarium
it's like an aquarium
except that it doesn't have water
it's got two kinds of plants
and a few little ants
and a big green and reeeeeddddd
caterpillar.

i feed it each day
cause i want it to stay
and grow bigger and rounder and FAT.
*ner ner*
i said fat.
*ner ner*
and i hope one day soon
it will build a cocoon
and one day become...
a beatiful butterfly.

I once gave a boyfriend sea monkeys.

They grew

They lived

Dog knocked over their world

Millions were killed.

Tragic really.....
