like most of you, Ive been really pissed at the delay of bringing in easily one of the best techno dj's in claude young. He was supposed to be at a few parties but it never happened and i missed his date at tonic a year and change ago so...when is he making his return, because he never showed to that one party with D12,it should be one of his next stops...whats up?

just like Jeff Mills and the rest of them....

why stay here and earn squat when you can get paid the big (euro)bucks to play in front of bigger more appreciative crowds??

i don't see him making the trip across the pond too many times...

I hope all these techno DJs who keep bemoaning the lack of stateside interest in their music know that it won't get any better over here if you don't get out there and build an audience.

It's the whole chicken and the egg thing though.

You can't build an audience without coming out and showing your stuff but you can't show your stuff until a promotor is willing to take a chance on you because you have no audience yet.

*sigh*

Dave...
(I sigh in sympathy and respect back to ya)...

I think usually the process starts to happen when you have an interest you're pationate about - and if you take your own initiative and make something out of your own skill, hard work, dedication... then if you're lucky you meet the right people and some1 notices that!- And then you're in the right place at the right time... and all of that.

Right now I am excited because I have been corresponding with a DJ (who tours internationally) for a year ! And, it finally looks like I have a job proposal/offer to be a personal assistant!

... a little off topic...

Not to bemoan the point, but:

- Claude has been here, at least twice possibly more.
- Claude only flies business class (its expensive)
- AFAIK he's holdin it down in Glasgow now and has a regular
residency there.

There is no spoon. People need to lay low sometimes.

Cheers

i'd also like to reply that he is ONLY a dj.
sure some of his tricks are cool and yeah some of his mixes are slick.
oh and sure, he IS from detroit.

but c'mon... he plays almost all of the same tunes you can get in any ol' record shop, so he's not THAT different from your local dj.
who, as in my experiences any ways, tend to be excellent djs who bring their own unique styles to the tables.

techno sounds cool no matter what you do it...
most people can't fuck it up. :)

^^^WHA'????

....just a dj eh?

ever seen his hands go on those tables (or his tongue?)

and I'm willin to bet that he has more than the records from your local store....he probably gets all kinds of whites/promos etc...I know if I ever had a whitelabel I would send him doubles to mess around with! :D

now don't get me wrong, I'm not elevating him to kingship, but Claude Young is more than joe shmoe dj (that'd be me or you)

but then again, these are just my two peso's

and i say 'whatever man' back to you!
i can't remember the last time i saw a local train or just plain suck.

i know most people who're into techno (or any dj-ed form of music) are all about the 'dj as an artist' thing. And man, i love a solid dj... but really going out is all about going out and having a good time.

You're telling me you can't really, really have a good time unless you see a dj that has the skills of Claude Younge (which in my opinion means that you only like three or four other djs)?
When i'm going out other things weigh in my decision to go out... is the crowd going to be hype, nice club etc. etc.

in summary, don't wait for 'said big dj' to go out and have some fun... go out and support locals and hot club nights 'cause fun is fun.

I just had to quote it again..I love this attitude and we need SO MUCH MORE of it in the Tdot. Support your locals, buy them a bevvy of beers, introduce your friends to them. We got something wicked happening in Tdot, its been brewing for years and now its bound to blow up!

[odd]?[io] gettin excited!!

^^^^^^^^^

talent like me!

yeah right... anyway... I agree with everyone here in that there's solid local talent (even oddio over there is the boondocks =). Toronto is such a DJ city that I bet you money that if you picked some random person off of queen st and threw them a bunch of records they could beatmatch them and put together a decent set.

As far as GREAT DJs go.. Toronto spawned Algorithm, Adam Marshall, Jeremy P. Caulfield and Mike Shannon (close enough =). All four of those dudes are superstars in the genre over in europe and they're doing it as DJs.

Then of course there's the up-and-comers like tommy, @m and KF who I gotta give mad props to. Soon you dudes will be touring in Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland

It's quite true Carola & Parisio are probabley more popular here than they are in Naples.
