Reminds me of a friend of mine. This was a few years ago (yeah, I'm old), and we were partying all the time. Anyways, we were all supposed to go to a E-Network New Years party, except his girlfriend at the time (non "raver") said he had to go to an alternative bar instead.

Anyways, at one point they played Chemical Brothers (hey! you take what you can get), so he started to go crazy dancing, pretending he was with us at the party.

Anyways, the MC comes on the microphone and annouces to the crowd "we just had a break-dancing contest, and THAT GUY WON!!!!")

Lol!

if you like the music and feel like dancing, bobbing your head or just standing there ....do what you want!
(however, if you are going to just stand, please move away from the middle of the dancefloor!!)

i love to dance, and i love even more to dance hard. :)
i try not to get too up-tight about dancing like a maniac in "normal" bars. if i hit a groove, and i'm feeling it -- or just plain drunk -- i'm going to go bonkers.

i recall being at a club last summer seeing jesse and johan play a great set in front of a nearly empty room. i was dancing and enjoying it in a big way, and some young(er) -- i'm a geezer, too -- girls approached me and asked if i was trying to "get something started". i just snickered and told them i was trying to dance. :)

the other thing i get asked a lot at clubs is if i'm selling drugs -- because i must be on drugs if i'm dancing the way i am!

Dancing is supposed to be an expression of how the music makes you feel. And what I admire about "ravers" is that they make up their own steps and moves. You do what you want. Some people don't understand that. They think that to dance, you have to follow the moves that some guy at the local community centre or ballet school taught you. And that's bullshit.

Dance how you want to. You're doing it for yourself and nobody else. So dance how you want. It's one of the few things in life where there are no rules.

narissa, one reason why i am continually less and less impressed is that most electronic music really isn't that good. once you've listened to something long enough, the "coolness" wears off and you reallize that 80% of it is garbage that can only be appreciate by being fucked up on drugs.

and as much as some people will try to argue again me on the above point, you have to admit that when you go out to a club you go through a lot of garbage just to hear those few great tracks.

and when the hell around people going to make more lyrics to songs anyways...? pure dancing music is great for some situations, but not all. substance needs to be increased

I think this is very wrong.
First of all there is no "good" music and there is no "garbage" music. Each has his own preferences. What you refer to as "garbage" is music that does not fit your preferences.

If you find only one or two good tracks among the "garbage" that is played in clubs, then your preferences concentrate on a very narrow collection of styles.

It seems that you have listened to electronic music for a long time and, apparently have developed a very concrete set of styles that you like. All others are regarded as "garbage".

I dont think that listening to electronic music for a long time would necessarily lead to this outcome. You could possibly widen your preferences rather than narrowing them down (I'm speaking of personal experience)

i haven't even been listening to electronic music that long. it's just that most of the tracks sound like something already done a million times. where's the artistic influence?

and i know that i have certain tastes and i'm putting those aside. i was talking about sheer quality of the music. as someone once said to me about d&b: it started to get really crappy for a while (ie:98-'00) because the producers had grown up listening to jungle and that's where they got their influnce. if you look at some of the best producers, they listen to other styles of music and creatively blend sounds in an original way to produce "music" not just songs. both house and d&b for example are benefitting lately from producers who spend their free time listening to jazz or latin music. or think of how many great rock bands grew up listening to blues and not just rock. that probably explains why most modern mainstream rock/alternative sucks ass; they're just repeating what they heard 10 years ago.

hope that kind of explains my point. i wasn't trying to be snobby, just analytical.

Hey Damon,

I'm gonna let that slip... plead temporary insanity on that post and you'll get off with two light shows and a slap on the wrist. Funny thing is when I first read your post, I hadn't been out to bust it in a while, so I found it hard to make an educated decision on the matter and couldn't post. So I went to breaksfest, and danced my ass off! I realised how much I love dancing more then I would have without your post having raised doubts in my head. Thanks man! The way I see it now,If your a person who CAN dance... you owe it to the people who can't! You've been given a gift dammit!! Use it! And I'm not talkin' about
out-dancing everyone in the middle of a circle while they hold up signs with your name on them... I sayin' if you are out, with Your crew, at Any club or party and you feel like groovin... Rip it the fuck up Mutha fucka!!!! Tear dat shit a new linoleum floor! Repra-fuckin-zent man! The whole reason your peeps are your peeps is 'cause they don't give a shit what anyone thinks anyway. So neither should you. Besides it's not even worth flatulating in the general direction of anyone who would see you "rave dancing" and look down on you anyway... Geese... sorry I got a little emotional there... but dancin' is the thang to do!

word to the big bird.

Damon it's pretty dissapointing hearing this coming from you! I'd never guess you would give a shit what people think.

personally, I LOVE the way ravers move there bodies.. I think it's wonderful. hell, even my mom can appreciate our moves.

I'll dance the way I wanna dance. and I've noticed that when I'm in a more clubby atmosphere, the clubbers seem to like my dancing and tend to watch me. you may be experiencing the same thing.. but interpreting it differently?

shit I was junglist spinnin @ my cousins wedding :)
