I need help with my new computer!

I set up my new computer but I've installed my old dialup modem into the new system. The problem is I use an email account with my ISP (not a public address) and now that I have the new Windows XP with a new Microsoft Outlook, all my old contacts, messages and drafts are all gone.

How do I get them back?
How do I tell the new Outlook to use my old email account?

E-mail is so vital to communicating with people out of the city so any help would be appreciated.

wouldnt that old info be on your old computer!?

a modems just a modem, it has no info stored on it.
and your internet provider wont keep that info on their servers for you to access it, its on your computer.

i guess you could figure out what files contain such info and then move them to your outlook express folder.

My ISP is Internet Direct.

FINARY used to work there! Do you know what type of email server I have to connect to (outgoing and incoming?) POP3 or IMAP?
And what's the server address?

KEVIN (or anyone else with an Idirect account), HELP ME.

it's pop3 that you use to connect with. Server address is postoffice.idirect.com, unless they changed it recently.

finary used to work there? No shit, so did I.

Yup, unless you are using a different ISP to connect with, then you would use their outgoing mailserver.

If you need any other help, ICQ me 1830498

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I totally forgot that there was a period in the name and not an "@." Thank you SO MUCH.

Now how do I get my address book? Or is that pretty much gone?

1)export your address book and all the emails on your old computer to a file
2)copy the file to the new computer
3)Import the file into outlook

How to export:

Outlook | File | export and import | export to a file | comma seperated (windows)

To import:

duh

My old hard drive is sitting on my dresser. So that poses a problem.

I guess I can put it back in to the new computer.

You should be able to transfer the old files to the new computer, but I can't remember for the life of me what they are called. I haven't troubleshot email clients in a long time.
