I can't help it i'm a sucker for any and all goodwill things come christmas. So World Vision got a new sponsor. THIS KID IS SO CUTE. He reminds me so much of all the kids I saw in SE asia while I was over there i couldnt NOT 'adopt' him.

Does anyone else sponsor a kid?
For a 1 a day it's hardly bank-shattering.
And it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

That's great!!! Nice to hear it!

I have a foster kid too...from Zimbabwe through Foster Parents Plan. I've been doing it for over 2 years now! He's 9 years old and sooo sweet looking! I just sent him a coloring book for Christmas.

Allie, since you're in the adopting mood, do you want to adopt me? I'm cute and house trained and make adorable christmas cards that I can mail to you updating you on how your donation has helped me kick my drug addiction. :p

I was actually scheduled to do a Big Brother program.

I've always been hesitant to sponsor a child because I don't trust international charties. How can I be sure my money is going to that kid if at all. If priests are molesting kids how do I know that Sally Struthers isn't using my cash to buy herself Burger King?

yeah me too.
also, these World Vision type charities are almost always church based, and i have my own issues with church based charities imposing their religious beliefs as a part of their humanitarian work.
but i'm cynical like that.

Have you ever seen World Vision's Building On HWY 10 in Mississauga? I don't know about those doods. Building seems pretty decked out!!

i totally agree.

the idea that church-based charity comes at the price of some sort of religious commitment really turns me off. it's charity and sure it's nice, but it comes at a price to the recipients. and in africa (mostly) that price is causing more harm than good! also, donating to a religious-based charity says something about my support for that group, and i don't necessarily want to send out that message.
