I have never signed so many books in my life! I was in the lobby area and this girl asked me to sign her book and in a matter of seconds it was a book-signing feeding frenzy. They were all over me like fuzz on a peach!

What do you sign in books anyway?

I just drew a little picture of my camera with an arrow pointing to it that said "camera" and a stick figure with an arrow pointing to it that said "alexd"...

HULLA review: umm, like every other hulla

we went in with 0 bracelets
we came out with 40 bracelets and

umm, nice to meet so many american ppl and out-of-town ontario ppl

nice to see faces whom i knew from 97

nice to be with my gf

OK ONE FAVOR: send me the link of my pic so if you don't publish it at least I get a copy!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

i had been looking forward to this night for several weeks. rarely do i get so excited about a rave nowadays that it actually hinders my ability to sleep the night before!
i got all gussied up in my few remaining candykid clothes, the baby blue ballcap (sticker on brim included), my unbelievably large blue overalls dress, my bright pink t-shirt, my plastic bead bracelets and my pigtails, and i was SET!
i had the huge pleasure of being a part of mutslaster's hulla cherry popping, and it started earlier in the night at my house. i adorned her with glitter, bracelets, a big bead necklace and a temporary star tattoo. she was a sight to be seen!

by the time our crew of 9 got to the Opera House, i was almost sick to my stomach with excitement.
almost immediately i went downstairs to the raver bathroom, to find it going in full force. packed to the gills with young girls chatting, hugging and bugging out in fine form. i love that the raver bathroom at hulla starts out sketchier at midnight and ends alot mellower by 6am. i find this to be the reverse of most other events i attend!
i made my way up to the 19+ balcony to get a better vantage point on the insanity below. Silver1 was playing the big classics and i really wish i could have arrived earlier to hear some more big anthems!

my night truly started at 1am when DJ Hixxy and MC Storm took the stage. as i've stated many times, i have a massive rave crush on MC Storm - hes disgustingly good looking, hes an incredible MC and he can scratch with his mouth! uh, hello Mr. Full Package! anyway, i need to give the biggest THANK YOU to Silver1 for not only getting Storm to dedicate a song to me, but for taking me backstage to have a brief conversation with Storm later on in the night. i was a babbling fool at that point, but i was probably the happiest fool in the joint!
Storm dropped all his signature rhymes. "i'm a raver not a f#cking drug addict!" always makes me laugh. this hour of HHC goodness was pure unadulterated heaven for me. my arms were in the air, i accidentally stepped on many feet, i screamed my head off and danced my heart out.

after that, i was able to chill out a bit and do all the things that make hulla the last vestige of the true rave spirit in my life. i met a bunch of incredible and beautiful people thru cosmik-cat and Littlest Hobo, including Team Magic. they were 4 friends who were dressed up in handmade costumes which perfectly fit the Enchanted theme of the night. (hi teva! you rule!)
i chatted with strangers, hugged my friends, traded bracelets, got lollipops and got even more stickers for my hat brim!
by the end of the night i had even signed a very sweet girl's book, gotten a massage and helped a friend who got Vicks Inhaler blown into her eye!
THIS NIGHT WAS RAVE MAGIC!

thankyouthankyouthankyou to my crew for being the best kids to party with in the entire world.
thankyouthankyouthankyou to the new people i met for being a part of my incredible memories.
thankyouthankyouthankyou to chris and all the people who make hullabaloo happen.

yeah!!!
great to spend time with you and your crew teva! you guys are a great bunch, and the mixing of our two crews was one of the highlights of my night. a classic example of the magic that happens at raves! hope to see you soon!

how do i write a review of such an enchanted evening? (bad joke, yes. but truly descriptive!)

my night started off in a polar opposite manner...at a dinner party with my old friends from camp. had to excuse myself early from the dinner party because i had another 'christmas party' to attend.

rushed home to find the preparty in effect....immediately changed from my 'dinner party' outfit into my old raver clothes. much to hal-9000's chagrin:p on went the powerpuff girl tshirt (which was a definate crowd pleaser!!) my phat pants (so destroyed at the bottoms from many a late night), sparkly make up, my bracelats and of course, my baby blue backpack.

at this point, my rave butterflys were in full effect in my tummy....a sign of good things to come!

got to the opera house in time to hear the end of Tommy's set, and as liz said...i'm said we didn't get there earlier as i missed the anthems. but nevertheless, enjoyed the 19+ area and took in the view from the balconey. pure madness below!

as hixxy and storm took the stage, we took our positions right up front. AND THE MADNESS BEGAN! i swear my head literally exploded from excitement at least three or four times. MC storm rocks the mic and the set from these two was incredible. including a drunken basic doing some drunken jumping across the stage!

i swear i was in heaven when they dropped 'the way'....holding liz's and sara's hands and screaming at the top of my lungs "put your hand in my hand and i'll show you the way".........amazing!!!!

i danced, i signed books, i got bracelats, i hugged strangers, i hugged my friends, i talked nonsense, i lost the plot on the dancefloor, i laughed, i exchanged emails with new friends, i gave out advice in the bathroom, i hoared toilet paper in my bag.......all in all, i experienced the magic that is a rave and i remembered why we all love this scene so much.

thanks to Hulla for keeping it up. thanks to all the partiers who added to the vibe. looking around, it was pure reckless abandon. it was awesome.

it all fell apart at the end tho... as all good raves should;) a wallet was lost, panic ensue, ravers all began looking on the dancefloor, the wallet was found. the coat check line up was enormous. my friends all ditched me and went to the afterparty without me:p thank god for cell phones.

thanks to my friends, both new and old. its the adventures with all of you that made my night so hulla-fantastic.

thanks to basic for lasting till 4am. glad you could rock it out at hulla, and glad i could share the adventure with you.

to sara and liz....incredible adventure ladies. love you both!

happy hulla everyone!

What can I say?

Hullabaloo has always been my favourite party company - and Saturday night was right up there with the most key Hulla's ever.
No matter how many that I've been to, I still get those excitment butterflys for the whole week leading up to it.

I had a mini-crisis and almost ended up backing out. Often I tend to miss the December Hulla, as it always falls during exams. However I put my nose to the grindstone and got enough homework done to ensure a night of guilt-free partying!

I woke up Saturday morning with thoughts of the upcoming night in my head. I went into work for 10am and buckled down to get some serious work done - I am glad I had something to keep me distracted, because in the back of my mind, my head was about to pop off.

After work, I ambled down to the ACC for the Leafs game. Between 10th row tickets, sitting a few seats away from and meeting Walter Gretzky, the smooth pace of the game, those big ass fucking beers they sell, some good company with Hal9000 and my beloved blue and white kicking the wings asses all the way back to "hockeytown" ( ), things were shaping up to be a stellar evening.

Next thing I know, I'm back at my place getting ready for our fabulous pre-party. I got back with Ry before anyone else was there, and was able to bogart the CD player and throw The Cure- Show on. Some serious good times went down, some good chats about strippers and other fun things were had - all washed down with some swigs of that cold rocky mountain taste. Then all of a sudden it hit - it was 11:30. Time to make our way to the hallowed house of operage!

We jump in the firemobile, with KiFe riding the wing. Luckily we're a hop skip and jump from the venue. Enough to time to chat about how back in our day, message boards were just that. You had to walk 2 miles in the snow just to post up a message. Before we know it, we're jumping out of the car (thanks for the ride!), leaving our trusty co-pilots to wherever the wind was taking them for the rest of the night, and hopped into the venue.

Security was quite friendly - although it may just be less of a testy encounter when you don't have any drugs on you. Got my coat in the secret coat check and then headed down to the washroom. By the time I had gotten up to the 19+ area, I already had 8 bracelets. I kept asking people for their most fucked up bracelet. I think the one I got from Conneticut with the coin on it takes the cake.

Luckily Silver1 was still on the decks. His earlish set caused him to miss the pre-party. And the pre-party means we missed the anthems he dusted off for the b-sharps. However catching the last bit of his set was great. Then the jungle came on - I was uninterested in it and retreated to the back room. It hadn't yet descended into sketch, and I met a cool little crew from Le College Francais (Merci de m'avoir ecouter!). Sat back there on the rave goo and drank some more beers. Ended up chatting it up with the big security guard with the ponytail - turns out he is the singer of a local death metal band, so we talked shop!

Then it was time for Hixxy! He threw down some seriously great shit. I was up on the stage rocking it out true Hulla styles. I tried to get back up when Frolic was on, but the weiner security guard was being a baby. No worries though, I didn't really want to be up there anyway. Overall, I just re-relaized why Happy Hardcore truly is such great party music. It sounds like Disney's Gay Chipmunks on Speed. Add a bunch of fucked up kids and it makes for a very hedonistic little fishbowl. But I mean, let's face it my friends, sometimes that really is what we all need.

I truly could have stayed until the end, but decide to up and leave at around 4am. By this point, I'd seen all I needed to see, and heard all I needed to hear. I said my goodbyes and jumped on the streetcar to head home. It was nice to get home and into my warm comfy bed, memories of a good night still dancing through my head.

Cheers to everyone who made my night great. I pretty much ran solo from the crew all night, but that tends to be my way of doing things at parties. I met lots of cool Americans, many of whom had come in through the crazy snowstorm. I honestly think that at Hullas these days, there are more Americans than Canadians.

Thanks to the Hulla Crew for keeping this thing going. Always a blast.

10/10

one other thing: there were ALOT of people there who were at their first rave. that makes me so happy! these kids were saying things like "everyone is so nice here!" "wow, i had no idea it was this fun" etc.
it was so cool to see the new crop of partiers be inducted into the true raver spirit as opposed to having to wait to get into a club in which they'd be surrounded by too much jadedness to understand what made us all so dedicated to this scene in the first place.

I didn't go, but my BF went with a group of friends that are die-hard Storm fans as well and wanted Woods to hit a party with them. We usually hit drum n bass deals...but woods went and he said he had a fucking incredible time. He loved Storm, said he got the crowd totally pumped up. I had a chance to see him with Anabolic at WEMF, and I saw that too. :)
The crowd was just losing it!

next time, I think I'm gonna hit it with them as well.
sounds too fun to pass up.

glad you guys all had a wikkid time!

you think you nizzle? you got NO IDIZZLE!

holy.

it appears as if i picked a good one for my first hulla experience... it was interesting being with an older crew but still being a newb! i think it was clear i was fully anointed when booty bits full-on busted me wishing ppl "happy hulla" in the sketch-ass bathroom. :p

my reviews are always late and everyone has summed up most of the best parts, so i will cover the highlights for me.
music-wise: hixxy and storm were the set of the night for me. i've never seen anything like it before, the energy in the room totally blew me away. i also realized that during every other party i always sit out the HHC sets and spend them talking to people and wait them out till i feel ready to hit the dance floor again. being in the midst of things gave me a completely different perspective-- SO MUCH MORE FUN! i also realized that the key to dancing to HHC is, as liz put it, "just jogging on the spot."
people-wise: thanks SO MUCH to my fantastic crew of friends who made my night -- booty, mcbee, kat, vince and jen, and the disappearing trio basic, beaker, and hal-9000 (as well as to the pre-party send-off crew! and post-party wind-down crackheads. jesus). i could not have asked for better company. also met some really excellent people-- david and teva, becky and fraser, nick and olivia from TRIP (olivia gave me a beautiful shirt-- how often does THAT happen?), some sweet girl in the bathroom who organized a search crew to help find kat's wallet.
apologies-wise: sorry i lost kait's wallet. sorry i left mcbee at the opera house. sorry i couldn't follow any conversations after 8 am. sorry i yelled at you guys for making me drink more booze. i was wrong.
i'll-never-sign-your-books-wise: the guy who tried to scam littlest hobo, the guy who vicks-ed my face and my eye was BURNING for like ten minutes, the guy who hit me in the head with his swinging glowstix every time i walked by.
best thing written in bathroom stall: SHORT BUS WHAT?

this is a great point.
hulla is pure fun. you can't knock it, until you experience it for yourself.

you have to leave all your inhibitions and any shred of self conciousness at that door. no one cares what you look like. no one cares how cool you are or how old school you are or how 'sceney' you are. if you are having fun, then that's it...you're accepted. i was a sweaty, dirty, discombulated mess but i couldn't stop screaming, singing, dancing and laughing.

i can't concentrate today. i just keep returning to this thread, reading the reviews and laughing out loud.

i think i had the same conversation with you and like, five other people. the main question being, how could you possibly not like hulla?
the conclusion: you would have to hate fun.

Dingding.

This is what got me hooked on this whole scene, and it is so rare to find these days. However, you always know that it will be there at a Hulla.

we did.

and who would be a fun hater??

i think after we reached that conclusion, the conversation may have descended into stupidness. but hey, the point was there!!

down with fun haters, up with hulla!!!

its quite refreshing.

i had so many examples of the goodness that was in the room....

-when kat's wallet was lost, every person who asked me what i was looking for, started to help look when i told them a wallet was lost

-the wallet was found, and delivered to a bartender by some random partier

-no line budding happened in the massive coat check line i was in.

-no attitude or people acting like they are the coolest.

-MC storm signed books for anyone that shoved them in his face. he could have been a superstar MC and ignored the young candy kids in front of him, but he was very gracious about it.

-just random nice,f riendly people everywhere.

SO much colour, so many smiles, so many people dancing… brought back good memories! Didn’t see any real problems. As usual everything seemed well run. The décor was minimal but the lighting was good. Sound check was crazy loud but the system didn’t sound so bad once things got going. mcbee and mutslaster, nice meeting you. “Dude John”… you could have talked my ear off all night! I hope your friends were finally able to get out of there. Thanx for the bracelet! ;)

Lots of experienced partiers and lots of first timers too… as expected, a younger crowd but not all kids… old tracks, new tracks… tones of crazy outfits and accessories! Wicked. Thanks to everyone that filled in the surveys at the TRIP booth. Shouts out to the paramedics that kept checking up on things all night and even put up with stickers on their faces!! :D

i went to the hullaboard/enchanted forum/enchanted pic thread

a few people have posted links to their photo albums.

i have yet to find a pic of MC Storm that truly encapsulates his hotness though! hes always screaming, sweaty and has veins bulging outta his head in the ones i've seen so far.
