because back in the day, the way it was brewed(ingredients and whatnot), it could stand the long trip to India(to the British troops)without going stale.

There are a few beers in England that are also IPA

In Canada they were taken over by Lay's (don't ask me how that happened) around 1995 or 96 (I forget which). I'm pretty sure that they still exist in the US though.
