How old is old enough for kids to babysit themselves?

Now that tribe seems to be more of a parenting forum than an explicit place of exploratory debauchery (you should see my deleted threads),

and WHEREAS i will soon have kids living in my house,

THEREFORE i ask, to the heteropromulgouslyreproductive type, how old do kids have to be to watch safely over themselves?

Does time matter? Like, a 10 year old is good for 10 minutes, and 6 year old is good for 6 minutes, a fourteen year old is good for 0 minutes, etc.?

Trust, it's not me who wants to be in this condition. Nonetheless, I defer to tribe rather than my counsellor, doctor, psychiatrist, employer, nor others.

12 is the legal age for leaving them alone for a certain amount of time. But under 18 and they get into shit, you're at fault if you are left to babysit.
Unless you are deemed unfit for supervising then the parents would have to pay the fine or for the car door.

I believe I should be deemed unfit for supervising. However I have been nominated as "best babysitter in the world" by at least two children.

That being said, I got high on gin and told endless stories until midnight with one, and the other decided they should put themself to bed on the kitchen floor.

Boy, mommy was not happy when she returned...

BEST BABY SITTER EVER!

I used to get left alone when I was 5 years old when I lived in an apartment in Oslo, Norway. At one point I did get freaked out but got used to it. Another time my mom took me to her Norwegian classes (or were they English?) in Oslo and left me outside the class. Then someone left the equivalent of $5 on me so I could get a baby sitter, haha.

Good times! These days that would be unheard of since I would get snatched and never be seen again.

12 years old is the age where you can leave a child alone for short period of time without it being considered abandonment by the gov't. Granted, the parent should know if their child is mature enough to have that put on them.

What about "latch key kids"?

The school bus drops them off and they let themselves into the house. Is that legal?
