hmmmmmmm....easier said than done though - the folds on the top and bottom seem well sealed.

as for getting the real version of this movie at hmv - thats not possible - they only sell this discontinued fossil

upon further review - there are 3 versions.

1) the new special edition jobby, released sept 2001 and with a full overhaul of the video transfer from 70mm (i guess that would be classified a seperate release)

now check out these 2, and see if you can tell the difference from the packaging:

2) the previous release (date jan, 2000)

- both widescreen and standard
- additional footage included

3) the one i bought (released 1994)

- no options whatsoever-

caveat emptor - buyer beware

OMG
Tommysmalls get aload of this.
I just finished my order on amazon.com, then I call my girl up to tell her I found a new edition and she freaks out on me.

She had just bought it for me like a week ago for my upcoming bday. She was so pumped, always saying...."Ive got a surprise for yoooou!"

Man I feel like an ass....DOH!

Have you tried returning it at another hmv? I use to work in the one at Burlington, and our manager wouldn't accept exchanges if the cd's were wrecked or purchased 7 months previously....even with the leniant exchange policy. I use work at the one in Oakville as well, and they're totally different. They'd accept anything and everything. If you explain your story at another hmv, I'm sure they'd have no problem with you buying the more expensive version.

Update - just got off the phone with the Vice President of Marketing for HMV North America. He asked that I send him an email outlining the fiasco, and said it shouldn't be a problem to remediate the situation.

mr. robot - this is their new policy as of the 14th....the manager on duty said she feared for her job if she would have accepted the exchange.

Hi Tom.

I have a hard time imagining a DVD being released in 1994. What's up with that???

for the record it's not closing.

also, what exactly is the new policy? If it was opened but I have the receipt, can I still exchange?

They were around, just extremely rare and expensive. Much like now with recordable DVD players.

From the Ministry of Baraka was an excellent showcase and marketing tool for displaying DVD's capabilities and picture quality.

kevin, if you open it, you own it - period - no questions asked, unless there is some kind of defect, in which case they will replace the item with the identical item - there is no leeway whatsoever.
