Hip hop dnb djs

to add to kates post, any dnb djs still mixing with hip hop. Now i mean more like ninja tunes style. We have all heard top 20 hip hop w/dnb mixed, but i dont think i have ever heard a set with some dj food or coldcut.

I think it all depends on what your trying to communicate with your set. Theres some coldcut and DJ food ( mainly Fungle junk but some others) as well as some London funk all stars that I'll open a set with or mix in durring a set but it can really mess with the flow of things. but if its done well it can be really beautiful.

As for the hip hop meets dnb thing. I tihnk alot of the remixes are ok if you'r playing in a club where people want to hear a bit of that but reawlly they have no staying power.
I do support dropping the odd accapella over tracks though. it keeps it creative and gives people something they dont expect .

so it guess thats still a no for any local djs/artists. Im just wondering if ppl are thinking outside of the DnB playlist. Closest set i have heard to this was mike paradinas (muziq) did a great set of this i saw at the phoenix, it could have been the opening set to Amon tobin, i forget.

I think my fav. person who mixes genres like that is Lorin ( Bassnectar) hearing his live sets incorperating lots of genres from downtempo to dnb, breaks, house, hip hop. he makes it work, although the burning man crowd are always more open then general club goers.
It sounds like your asking becuase thats the direction you want to take. if that is the case, go with it. if your having fun and mixing what you want to mix and enjoy it then others will too.

i dont buy dnb anymore, cant afford it with my half step/2 step addiction. Im just asking just cause id love to hear a set of this. Thanks for replying pointing me in a direction.

Check old freaky Flow tapes for this kinda stuff. It's not innovative or a forward thinking thing to do. Generally it's steered away from cause it is in fact quite lame IMHO. Why waste a couple minutes of a set mixing hip-hop when there is sooo much great jungle out there that clearly trumps it?

well no offence but his track selection is weak, and his sets seem to rotate around the Tits cd, still. I agree with DnB having such great tunes that why mix hip hop, i was only asking, thats all. Thanks for the replys.

I'm just being jaded, if cross genre mixes are ur thing good luck on ur search. As far as the F.F. comment it was kinda an inside joke. Not to start a F.F. sucks thread or nothing but F.F. sucks IMHO.

KINETIC BROTHER, where are you these days?

TaCk,

When I saw this thread I thought of James right away.

Did a quick Google search.

Looks like he was over in London, UK DJing under the
name "DJ Kinetic" although I'm not sure if he was stressin'
D&B or hip-hop under that moniker.

When I first met James, he was DJing under J-Bold
and that's what he's going by nowadays.

http://myspace.com/therealjbold

He's still in the UK, hanging with a crew called FIDGIT.

Here's a video of him playing at the Legion:

(Even though the lighting is bad, you can tell it's J by
the way he's grooving and bobbing behind the decks)

Here's a music video with him behind the decks.

Looks like he's cut some wax too -- with his own
label (Championship Vinyl):

If he want to hear what he's been up to lately ...

Check out these mixes:

He's still in the UK huh? that's rough.

wonder if he's still dating goergie. Me and that guy used to be pretty tight back around the intimate crew days.

I'll check those links soon....thanks

Too commercial? WHUT? lol (just taking the piss!) Definitely, I was the "jiggy side of jungle" (great name for a lp btw : P)

Tack, long time, mayne. Hope everythings good with you. This is my first post on tribe in like, 5 yrs. I can't believe I a) am still a member & b) remembered my password. Me and Georgie aren't together any more (just to answer your wondering) Still in London, I gotta re-apply to stay in Aug, so cross your fingers for me... Being deported would suck. Although the title "Deportee" under my name seems a bit gangsta...haha.

Still in uk is rough or ruff? Bad meaning bad or bad meaning good? (",)

Also, I need to big up your 9,000 posts, at 10,000 do you get a gold tribe watch? : P

Anyway, large-up to the humbling post by Doughboy and big love to the rest of the Tribe Massive. BRAP!

last time i saw you (kenetic) was at Fever in Hamilton wicked set! I wasnt planning on going but Shy dragged me out, im glad i went. I think im in the wrong room for this post. I should have asked the hip hop forum if any play hip hop mixed with dnb, not dnb remixes of tunes. Most hip hop to dnb remixes I find are weak.

once again thanks for the replies.

jungle owes me money.

I might be out to the UK this summer on a trip, if so it'd be hype to grab a pint.

Hey Sal,

You wanna upload it somewhere to share with those less fortunate
souls like myself?

Thanks.
