Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to do, but realistically, I only see them winning 4 or 5.

...but what about the lesser known categories? like documentary, and foreign film etc. etc.

That would mean the RIGHT movie would win the award. That never happens. LOTR will get the shaft again this year. Expect something stupid like Seabiscuit to win best picture.

Also try to pick from the winners of the Golden Globes as much as possible. Academy voters are stuipid sheep and usually vote for things that are already winners. Why actually see a movie and make an informed vote when you can just pick what everyone else picked.

I guess you must know a lot of them personally, huh? It couldn't be that they all agree the movie is worthy, right?

I'd go with Murray for actor; Robbin's for supporting actor; Theron for Actress; Zellweger or Aghdashloo for supp. actress; "Girl With The Pearl.." for cinematography; 'Nemo" for animated feature; 'Samurai" for costume (period over fantasy).

Have you ever seen who wins these awards? It's all about hype and nothing to do with content. Miramax basically bought the Oscar for Shakespear in Love, Titanic was not the best movie the year it won, it wasn't even the best Hollywood movie.

And no I don't know them personally but I went to school for three years studying the art of film making so I'd say I have a very valid opinion on what is and isn't a good movie.

I'd go with Hal-9000 for super movie nerd.

Uh, I never said anything about what is or isn't a good movie (and sorry dude, but film school or no film school, an opinion is just that...an opinion...and we all have them). Nor did I say anything about awards being bought. I was just wondering how you know what goes through the minds of Academy members and how you know their viewing habits. Apparently you're just basing your assumptions on your personal disagreement of their choices.

LOTR, because shitty epic films always win best picture.

LOTR is like Star Wars-- overrated as hell, and liked only by people who read the books as children. The best way to get people to like something is to fish them in when they have no taste, i.e. when they are kids.

For once, I wish that people would have some objectivity about films, but I guess that would be like asking a retard to do long division.

Oh, I see, this is the argument where we nit pick the wording of my statement. Fine... edited as follows:

That would mean the movie I liked the best would win the award. That never happens in my opinion . LOTR might get the shaft again this year. Expect a movie that I did not see and/or enjoy like Seabiscuit to win best picture.

Also try to pick from the winners of the Golden Globes as much as possible. In my opinion, Academy voters are stupid sheep and usually vote for things that are already winners. I hypothetically ask why actually see a movie and make an informed vote when you can just pick what everyone else picked?

^^^ i figured i should probably reply to this to clarify things before the big show.

i very much want to make this bet - that is, i will bet $100 on LOTR:TTT to win versus the other 4 nominees - but i don't know you, so i'm not sure how i would collect.

do you have any suggestions or does anyone who knows me want to take this bet?

KW: I will never make a bet with you.

Because I know I will lose.

No question.

Smarter than the average bear...

Edit: I don't think this helps you draw someone in for a bet. Soooorrrry... :(
