Health Insurance ???

I recently left a job that provided me with healthcare/dental and vision care benefits, and am now currently self employed.

I am looking to get some insurance coverage asap, and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what company has good rates, plans etc.

Manulife looks great, but pricey ? I don't know....help me out please !!

I searched for an existing thread, couldn't find one, so if there is one and I missed it, I'm sorry.....please post the link.

Thanks guys and gals,
J

I have checked all the big names.....they all seem to ofer pretty good packages for around $100 per month.

I have seen others that are about half that price, and they are all in smaller towns outside of Toronto.

I'm going to decide soon, just looking for any last minute suggestions.

Anyone know a good broker for extended leave Travel Insurance? I need 2 1/2 months of full health insurance with emergency evac, and want to find the lowest price possible.

thanks

when I used to work for a small business there were no benefits, I had researched a few...

Clarica? I think was one of them. just do a google search for individual health insurance for ontario.

It was roughly $45/mth (this was 5+years ago)

Is it really worth it? $1200 a year for dental and perscription drug benefit?

For that price you should just claim the dental and prescription drugs on your income tax. Unless you have very bad teeth and suspect major problems.

I got a great price from PC Financial for my 9 day trip. They are one of the few banks that actually calculates your insurance premium online. The rates were better than RBC and CIBC, and the coverage was essentially the same. Not sure what your needs are for a long-term vacation, but its worth a look.

hey, yeah the rates you get at banks for trips longer than two weeks haven't been too good from what i've seen(i work at a major bank).

Give this a try: http://www.pcinsurance.ca/ROCEN/TI.asp I'm just curious what kind of quote you get from them.

Hrm...I just discovered that ING also offers emergency travel medical insurance, but you have to speak to one of their brokers to get a quote. I know that they offer very competitive rates on Mortgages etc, might be worth a look too.

it's only $120, but I looked into their coverage and they don't have emergency evac. I need this because i will be working in very remote areas at times(cloud forest, low level jungle).

I'm looking for insurance to cover me while overseas for a year on a working holiday visa. I've come across a company called World Nomads which seems aimed at backpackers, etc. and I think they cover evacuation.
Three months with them would be US$160.
