Here's a picture I took- it might be a little distorted...
It's from the BLUE party last summer.
I look forward to hearing/seeing him use final scratch again!

I'll probably go...
....but I wasn't really to impressed with him at Tonic last time....
....to many builds...
..if he plays, however, like when I saw him at Turbo last time....
....then DAMN!....will I be happy. :D

When he was at Tonic (and pretty much most of his set at the blue party which was about 1 month before tonic) he was promoting his 'closer to the edit' release. If you've listened to the release, its very mellow and chill (but excellent), so most of his set was gearing towards that style. I'm guessing this set will be more like the one at turbo...

but we'll never really know...?

He was better at that Blue party(Weird setup at Kool Haus by the way for that party). John Aquaviva sucked ass though.

Unfortunately, I have to say I agree- about Acquaviva- NOT, that he sucked, so much... his skills were great and there's no question he has a very high-profile name and clout behind him...
he's usually promoted w./ a lot of class...
But, what he was playing was not my favourite selection... lots of house and tech-house, almost progressive and up-beat... not anything like Hawtin and somehow the two sets didn't build on any continuity with one or the other...

I've seen Aquaviva a number of times before and really liked him, but this time, man, I couldn't handle him. It was like he was absolutely clueless to his surroundings. About 20-25 minutes into his set put a vocally/housey thing on. That's when I walked out the door.

I've heard Richie spin a few times and had mixed experiences, some good, some bad, but ANY DJ you see is going to have good and bad sets. Just cause they have built an international name for themselves doesn't mean they're going to be flawless.

I for one like most of what Richie spins, and frankly his set at Kool Haus last summer was fucking phenomenal. Maybe not technically, but the track selection and programming made me wanna cum. Which I did. Over, and over again.

I dunno, I'll generally check him out, as long as its not at Tonic.

BBB.

Tommy no likee. :D

i shit my pants the first 3 times i saw him - but that was before the de909 days of his new brand of mainstream techno.

he's more hype than dj these days --- OOOoooOOOOooo finalscratch, woop-de-fucking-doo.

hawtin should get back to the studio and start writing some tracks - all this touring is making him boring and homogenous

--

ever hear of speedy j? he still captures a similar essence of minimal techno of hawtin from years gone by - and all through LIVE PA's!!!- check my folder in the tribe ftp, or icq me.

cheers,
tommy

If there's anyone in here who doesn't have SOME speedy j, I'll spank their asses.

I would love to see Mr. Paap live, I think his production work FAR outshines anything by Richie Hawtin. He's all over the place, too.

When was the last time he was here, BTW? 5 years?

BBB.

SOMEONE BRING SPEEDY J TO TORONTO.

Yikes! Chill...

The best time I saw Hawtin was.... in Detroit at his JAK party.- that was good... the atmosphere was insane too.

I hear Richie drives ... a bmw, jaguar- i think Carl Cox drives, and... maybe it was Acquaviva who also has a sweet car- i forget which one.

 HiiiiiyPE....
it comes along with the territory of making a living as a DJ- marketability is important in making lots of money from doing what you love.
I think... integrity of the artist is what's most important- as long as that's protected, and if they keep producing music that ppl enjoy...
Also, honoring connections is important, and remembering how you got to the place you are- avoiding superficiality is cool, IMHO.

I am really curious- I think I may be recording records onto the program/software for someone who will be producing on it....
Any ideas how it works? I have no clue.

Ive only seen Mr. Jochem Paap once...
in Hamilton back in 95(?)
for a Steel City Records party

upchucked from the basslines,

good ole acid house- crazy times...

i think the last time he was here was at the minimal party by the transendance people..

someone please bring him back :D

as for richie, coxy and aquavivas cars....ummmm...who cares?
I know I don't....if you want to compare success with cars then I guess Dave Clarke is on top in the Richie/Dave fued since he drives ferrari's and other sports cars.

(all this talk bout cars has me singing Gary Numans 'cars' track..)

He was here for minimal in '96 [AFAICR], so 6 years, and damn he SLAMMED IT!!!

Richie was great when the tools were more important than the music [ie. 90-99]. Now I have trouble dealing with the overt hardness, and typicality of the music he decides to play. Richie was always the one guy you could rely on to make it a journey, now its all about having more knobs to tweak, oh yeah and image, don't forget about image...krikey!

Tommy I would love to hear those MP3's, hook a brotha up!!..

Cheers

you forgot, s&m pron being screened on the camo netting above your head in the techno room, Algo almost beating Speedy J for touching his eq's during his set, the wonderful red velvet curtains and huge disco ball in the house room, and who could forget the maze of black plastic and the strobe room made of tinfoil! This party had it all [including secret chill out rooms!].

I'd tell you the really good parts of the night, but some things aren't meant for sharing..

all this reminiscing is killing me!!!

...boys... please... i beg you... have a little mercy ;)

I’ve been dying to see Jochem for quite some time now... while I'm familiar with all the stories, I have yet to experience Speedy J in person. I understand from a reliable source that he plans on touring North America in the near future, but I've heard that story before

His website changes periodically, but I’ve never been able to make any sense of it... does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me? I could swear it’s nothing but a mind fuck...

For those interested, www.dj-sets.com has his set from last year’s Liberty One festival in Germany...
...enjoy!!
