It's a Palm OS PDA, cellphone, email, SMS text messaging, and wireless web all in one.

It's currently available through Rogers AT&T Wireless for somewhere in the $800 - $900 range = NOT CHEAP.

I think I'll wait until they add ringtones and an MP3 player to it, then I'll be all over it.

Heheh... I used to be their tech support 2 years ago, until they moved the centre down to CA.

Welp, at least I got me a free handheld.

don't hold your breath - especially on the mp3 part. mp3 playback is neraly impossible to perform on a software level, and to add a hardware solution will require a large addition at this point which will not fit in the current form factor.

ringtones: simple ones, yes, that's not too bad. anything complex such as polyphonic tones are just as difficult as the mp3 player.

considering they've dropped the springboard plugin platform for this product line they've essentially stopped any development that could be promising with this.

and it's not even gprs capable. although they claim a software upgrade will be available soon, this will be a 'wait and see' thing.

i've used it briefly and it's a pretty decent little machine. but i don't care for palm type products, so ... meh.

well ... i will assume they are using a dual processor design (one for the GSM shite, one for the palm shite). the dragonball uP cannot handle mp3 decoding, neither can the gsm uP.

even if the gsm uP can, it doesn't have the capabilities to output full audio bandwidth. it can only handle voiceband - and there aren't any external serial lines to output to a dac.
