Guvernment complex closing?!?!?!

I just heard a nasty rumour that the Guvernment complex is going to be shut down by early 2004 to put up condos.

Can anyone confirm?

I KNEW someone would ask sooner or later.

*months of waiting for a real answer but was afraid to ask*

why would they tear down that club to put up condos?

there's miles of wasteland down by the gardiner...it doesn't make sense for them to put one up there, it's not like it's super prime land or anything.

...That a new large better venue will replace it.

We're supposed to have a new superclub opening up in the Dundas and Spadina location.

It's called Boa Redux (sp?)?

I have heard (from a fairly reliable source) that Charles has agreed to sell the Guv. :(

No confirmation on timing and as to what exactly will replace it, although I have heard that they are considering putting up a Silver City there.

I am sure that the closing party will be the bomb (and rammed)!

I always thought that Charles actually didn't own the Guv but leased the space. However he was smart enough to buy the parking lot spaces around the Guv. Maybe that's what's being sold as its right on the water front.

well, is not like anyone in this board loves the guvernment.

pretty much everyone has negative comments about it. I would be sad to see it go but...what can you do?

where would sasha and digweed play? where else would you find a phazon system in this city?
that system kicks ass.

Boa Redux is supposed to be in the old Far East Theatre on Spadina just south of Dundas. Last I heard the interior was done but the exterior hadn't been touched yet. I haven't seen anything going on there at all.

I could see Charles selling the Guvernment. First he doesn't own the building and is just leasing it. With all the money he puts in he is at risk of losing it to the landlord at any time. And with opening and building that bar on Queen West he is probably strapped for the cash.

However with the following and cashflow of that club, I can't understand why he would ever do it. Toronto would lose one of its best concert venues in the Koolhaus.

That'd be just stupid.

Not that everyone loves going to the Guv on club nights...but Toronto would lose two great concert venues.

Seems kinda silly to rip the guv down so soon after doing all those renovations...

But then again, for the right amount of money almost anything is possible.

Hmmm... Does anyone know about what's up with the new venue at Peter and Adelaide?

They just remodelled the exterior of a building on the West hand side of Peter... They've been going at it for weeks now. It looks kinda like a big lego block now. Very suspicious, methinks.

The place you were talking about Mr Furious, is that just a re-hash of the old Tropicana venue?

And on a related note, what's happened to "X-It"?
