They are still promoting Google + thing like crazy but I wonder if anyone is actually using it regularly and for what purpose?

(I am pretty sure I have posted this same thread before, and if so, I will find it and merge it).

lots of people still use it.

its not in the half billion user range but its got a dedicated serious amount of people using it, i think i probably have at least 30-50 % of the amount of people in my circles.

its great for following people without reading twitter.

twitter is for retards, and instagram is for retards that cant read.

facebook is a necessary evil if you want to conveniently stay in touch with a bunch of people and you use adblock to ensure you are not bombarded by shite 24 hours a day, but its still ugh.

went it first came out it was cool to see how it diffrered, its not there to replace facebook, its there to give people that dont want facebook and alternative.

there is a very different feel and culture to google + and there is literally like -100% baby fucking pictures and the inane shit people post to their bookface/twitter/NOONEGIVESAFUCKABOUTYOURLIFE pages and IMO i find the posts, discussions and the formatting of g+ to by quite fun.

people should probably spend less time on these things and get the fuck outside more.

I've been using it since it first came out. I actually like it but for different reasons of why I use Facebook.

At first I tried using it exactly like the way I used FB back then...constant updates letting people know what I was up to. Since then, I've gotten really bored with FB to the point that I rarely post on it unless it's something really interesting or to reply to someone's post. It's kind of turned into a news stream for me which is where G+ now comes in.

G+ is waaaay better for following people or pages compared to Twitter which I never really got into. The "What's Hot" section is the equivalent to the "trending on twitter" but I find that it's more relevant because you can get the full article or news item right there and then without having to visit another page unless you want to. Comments are right there as well. I also like the concept of circles as I can quickly and easily see who is part of what circle. One cool thing I did with circles is to create one for saving posts to either read later or to keep forever. Create a circle call "Reading" and add just yourself to it. Anytime you come across a post that you like, "share it" with the Reading circle only. Then you can go and view the posts under the Reading circle and see all your saves.

Ingress (the Android based game) has really pushed us to use G+ for everything from creating Groups to using Hangouts to chat and coordinate things with other players. Pretty smart of them (Google) to do this. It's not surprising why G+ is beating Twitter for total number of users but I think that's also because Google is pushing G+ for every single one of their services these days. It's almost like you can't have Gmail unless you have G+ as well.

It's definitely not the ghost town it used to be and I'd be nice if more people got onboard with it but don't make it another FB equivalent with people posting useless crap on their feeds.

I'm not on Twitter much any more, but that's just because I wasn't getting much out of it, but I have no doubt that for many it provides an essential community. It's also indispensable for journalists and activists. Intstagram is great for sharing quick snaps of life with your networks, that's what its for - many of my designer/illustrator friends don't use any other networks, and as visual communicators, it is an ideal platform for them.

Only a retard would dismiss a medium out of hand.

I actually have been using it more lately. When I first signed up I didn't really understand it, but after playing with it more I now "get it." I think updates they've made since it first came out helped also. I really like the menu that they have down the side. Right now I use it more for the "Community" feature, which is a cross between a message board and online comment section. I just wish more of my friends use it.

hahaha fair enough, it was actually something i saw posted and wondered what kind of response would happen if i said it.

Twitter serves a purpose, and of course its all in how you use it, i would prefer for the most part to see full statements and thoughts from individuals, rather than the limited posts.

Instagram while it serves a purpose as well, is also a breeding ground of inanity, but to each there own, there is only so many mindless pictures of peoples lives i can handle to go along with their amazing updates on how their food tastes, what their shoes look like, and 13000 selfies.

regardless, as lobo said, G+ has done a very good job of not providing a service like facebook, but providing a service that allows you to do much of what you do with facebook, twitter, instagram, but in one place and with a more eclectic group of users.

i feel like many of the people i wouldnt want to see on there, feel its too ' hard ' or they dont get it.

that pleases me.

G+ is as good as any social network, you could do worse, or better, or none at all. I prefer none myself. Life as been a pretty sweet ride since I dumped FB and G+.

Twitter has replaced all my web surfing minus msg boards and porn. I can't live without my Tweetbot

And G+ likes it dirty.

I give it my info...and it gives me directed advertising and good conversation.

I somehow have 80ish followers or some such. I post nothing except mundane shit, mixes, tunes and cool shit that catches my eye. I also post very little.

80 seems gigantic given how little I have to offer. Imagine if I actually had "content"...fuck I hate content...the term and what it implies.

I'm a human being, not organic matter to be consumed by other humans.

Fucking zombies.

Without G+ I would have no place to express myself publicly without threat of a lynching or non-religious excommunication except tribe.

And I don't think any of us wants that.

Dumped FB like a bad lay, though.

Ars Technica: Report: Google to end forced G+ integration, drastically cut division resources

Despite Google's denial, it makes sense for the company to back away from Google+. The social network hasn't gained the massive userbase it would need to rival Facebook, and the aggressive integration strategy has been universally hated by users. As Google gets bigger and bigger, it faces harsher scrutiny, and few things the company has done have been more disliked than Google+. According to the report, Google+'s YouTube takeover was seen as "a rocky move" even inside the company.

It also makes sense for this to be the reason for Gundotra leaving. Google+ was his baby, and when pet projects like this get canceled or don't go well, it's typical for the company and the employee to part ways (See: Forstall, Scott).

I only use it when my friends and I want to video chat or play D&D with the roll20 app you can install. It's super cool.

I use Google + instead of Facebook.

I do not have a Facebook account. I am also very glad I do not have a Facebook account.

I left about 2 years ago and have never looked back. From time to time, I think, you know, I might hear more about events and whatnot as the primary location of event invites take place on Facebook, but then I think of all the invites I DON'T want.

Then I remember I like Google+

I also like Google+ because interactions are so different. Sure you still get people posting about BS no one cares about, but I find it a LOT easier to actually engage people, to meet new people, and to just in general, have better conversation and topics that Facebook.

It also depends on how you've circled people. I have different streams for different purposes, depending on my mood.

But I DEFINITELY do not believe that Google+ is a ghost town.

I have almost ALL my close friends on it, and more. I can post, talk, read, hangout, etc.
Pretty much anything in Facebook, just minus all the BS that comes with Facebook.

I'm happy in Google+. I hope it stays.
