Deadly selection, weaving through a good decade of the finest cuts.

I've had it on repeat for a few days now as it's working nicely with the sun. Gilles is the man.

i just gave it my first listen last nite and had many flashbacks...when he was fielding whether to do one or not, the after midnite and any breakbeat era (secretly hoping it was ultra-Obscene instead) were on my wishlist.

This one is brilliant start to finish

Nice. What I would do to spend a week/month in the Brownswood.

i'd give your left nut for a copy of The Roots - Web that only he has (the version that's on the BBC sessions disc i think).

But ya, u could probably get lost for a few years in Brownswood...it's like Disneyland for records

its a cool mix, but lots of the tracks aren't that pivotal / relevant imo but i'm not Gilles Peterson

They're relevant if you lived in London. I enjoyed it as a series of snapshots of moods and atmospheres that emerged out of that city.

at the end of the day its all about tastes, a shit load of sounds came out of london in the 90's, he only took 40 tracks so there is a selection process involved, just not as much of a peshay and photek fan as he clearly is, that's all

don't get me wrong, still a cool mix, and gilles is an incredible host, great radio voice, knows exactly how much to talk and how much to shut up

i think you'd need closer to a year.

i'd take what i can get though.

i'm fairly certain aki and lopes have been there. lucky bastards, but then you could spend a year going through their collections too.

Yeah, it's totally subjective. If every DJ/producer put together a retrospective of dnb in 40 tunes, each mix would have different tunes. It's an obvious reflection of personal taste and nostalgia.

Also, I really can't fathom how anyone would do one and not put something by Photek (or one of his many aliases) in it. He was such a ground-breaking artist. Ni Ten Ichi Ryu is a masterpiece.

I hope that he does more installments in this series. :)
