Getting back into the groove.

After looking long and hard at my crates full of records, I decided to go through them and clear up some much needed space in the aparment.
I started Djaying when I was 15-16. A basement beat junkie spinning on whatever he could get his hands on. This was back in 93. I got out of it & sold my equipment some 7 years ago.
The first crate was easy. Just a bunch of crap euro dance. Back then it was what "my crew" listened to and clubbed to (I quickly got out of this phase.)
Then the tougher crate. My old skool and hip hop. Bounce, skate, rock, roll & Sheila E all the way to naughty by nature and Fugees. The torment to decide what to keep!
Then alas the house crate (which my heart wouldn't let me get rid of 3/4ths of it) The fog, bucket heads, Armand & alot of strictly rhythm artists, stickmen, wubble-U, danny tenaglia, etc. A lot of rare white labels and remixes. Durring all this I decided to go a complete direction.
Get back to spinning. Buy MORE records after selling off the crap. Buy Equipment. I selected a VERY modest DJ in a box (I know I know not 1200s) however it's the stanton direct drive set that came with the 3 channel mixer. ( http://www.stantondj.com/alpha44/load.asp?page=mixpakpro)
Slowly sparked from beginning a clubbing rampage in TO some 3 years ago at system sound. I fell in love with the break room. the beats, the energy. Good vibes. I decided to make breaks and trance my new Repertoire. keeping the smooth grooves of classic house.

The question is with not much radio play in my area (hamilton) where does one learn who's in and out, whats new in the scene, what labels promote good artists. There is barely an electronic music scene here in Hamilton, and I don't get to toronto as often as I wish. internet radio stations for breaks etc.
Also whats the best way to get my Name out there?
I plan on going at this full force as I never really stopped being a Dj@heart

Much help is appreciated.

Signed

get on the release records mailing list. real audio samples of all the new shit every week or two.

it'll be hard to miss out on anything good.

dr. disc in hamilton isn't too bad for breaks, but they are definitely much more jungle/hiphop oriented, as is the entire city, but they'll very rarely miss any big choons at the shop.

with regards to the hamilton scene, it's there, but you have to look for it ;)

oh, and you'll be crawling back to technics soon enough...:p

Oh I know I will. Budjet constraints right now. just anything to get back into the grooves. Actually Most of the records I am selling still have their Dr.Disc prices on them form 7-10 years ago WOW. and I always loved my pilgrimiges to Traxx and play da record. Looking forward to those again. My Friend DJ Kurly is spininng here in hamilton on the 10th of april. the scene here though isn't like it is in TO. Parties are few and far between. as I get into it more it will reveal itself. thanks fer yer help guys keep the help comin! :D The tough debate was to get Turntables or CD decks. But I can't leave vinyl never will. I'll get the cd decks l8r too. all in time.

Traxx shut down about 2 years ago. ;) The Quizno's that opened in it's place is quite something though!
