Anybody here get a lawyer recently?

I need to see a lawyer that deals with family-law and where the first initial consultation is free. I looked in the yellow pages but way to many to choose from, so I though maybe some of you here might recommend someone.

Thanks

I've watched enough episodes of Alley McBeal to be a good lawyer ... all what you need to do is get the jury singing along to a song and you'll win the case for sure!

Best attorny i've ever had. (please note this is a joke, she has no formal training and you might end up in jail)

Your attourney? I must decline. I see the bullshit attourneys of law have to put up with...

Though i may offer you legal advice from time to time... especially when you fail to realize that selling out on a constant basis is infact a grave injustice worthy of full punishment in a court of law.

I'm pretty sure that the ways (yes more than a few and i'm sorry) I consistantly sell out are not punishable by law.
Punishable in other ways yes, but not by law.

"As your attorney, I would advise you not to... read Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas if you don't already see lawyers as crooked!"

God bless Hunter S. Thompson.

most family lawyers will do the initial consultation for free. it is hard to give a proper reference without knowing more details - some family lawyers are appropriate for simple divorces, others are more appropriate for custody issues, while others are appropriate for more affluent couples (i.e. more assets, more complex property and tax issues).

your best bet is to call EPSTEIN COLE. it is the largest family law firm in north america, their head office is in toronto and their rates are very reasonable.

ask for Alison Kotler (416-862-6230) and tell her that you were referred by a colleague of her husband Jason. if your legal issue does not fall within her specialty, she can refer you to a more appropriate lawyer in her firm. (that's the benefit of going to an all-family law firm.)

good luck.

one more thing - it is generally a bad idea to go to a lawyer who professes to be a 'general practitioner'. this refers to lawyers that dabble in all areas (criminal, real estate, general litigation, family, etc.)

no disrespect because i know several lawyers like this who are quite competent. but if a complex issue arises in a specific area, a g.p. will be at a severe disadvantage.

if you can find a lawyer that specializes in an area that covers your specific issue, the service and advice will be much better.
