Quick message about outlook.

is there any way for outlook to minimize to tray? so that it keeps checking for new emails without having to have it taking up space on my taskbar?

thanks.

you can't use outlook to do that.. but there are other programs out there that will check your email for you..

there is a program that my boss uses that sits in your system tray and simply tells you when emails arrive to whatever email-inbox you set it up to check.

unfortunately my boss is away today so i can ask him tomorrow if no one else fills you in.

I have been trying to do the same thing, forever. But, I haven't been able to figure it out either!

it seems as if the registry hack only works if you are using winxp and office xp

i just tried it with my OS (win2k and office 2k) and it didn't work.

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\10.0\outlook\

add a DWORD value called MinToTray and set it to "1"

10.0 = XP

i thought ahead of you, and put the hack in 9.0 for my system.. office 2k = 9.0
still didn't work.

Is it possible to have Outlook 2000 minimized to the system tray witout it being visible on the task bar?

I dont mind what I need to do: VBA, macro, registry but I dont want to have to use another program that eats up even more memory in the process.

Many thanks

Hello,

This problem (minimize Outlook to tray) is very topical question for me.
I use small utility for minimize Outlook to tray. You can find at the following link:

You can also try http://www.rocketdownload.com/Details/Util/1177shot.htm to download Icon Corral which seems to work pretty well for minimizing any program to the tray.

If you are only interested in minizing outlook (xp for sure, I don't know about other versions) to the tray, you can edit the registry as follows:

hkey-current-user\software\microsoft\office\10.0\outlook\preferences
Make a new dword called MinToTray and give it a value of 1.

you run REGEDIT in windows.

and navigate to the place i mentioned up there..

the "/" means it's a sub folder.

so to get where i said to go..

expand the "hkey_current_user" folder, then the "software" folder etc, until you get to the folder PREFERENCES. (i was one folder short in my description up there)

click on the preferences folder in the left window pane..

then on the right side, click in the blank space and choose
New -> DWORD Value
give it the name MinToTray (not sure if it's case sensitive, but that's how they said to write it).

then, after typing in the new name, press enter and then double click on the new Entry you just created..
change the 0 to a 1 and voila!

should work.

if you have outlook running, you may have to restart it in order for it to read the registry settings again.

My daddy always told me:
'you're not there to be taught... you're there to learn'
whenever we debated about education.
