I snuck right under the line before the graduated system came out. I got my licence May 1994 and the graduated system came out in June.
Wasn't even 16 1/2 and had maybe 30 hours of driving experience.
The difficulties of getting your 'G' license have been greatly stretched. My gf moved over to Ireland and came back and her G2 expired, but they let her take a G test. SHe hadn't driven in 16 months and passed it no problem.
I think if you drive safely and with confidence and that comes accoss to the tester, they won't need to do every single test to remove the doubt in a marginal case.
That mirror check thing is key though.
Its automatic transmission, gas break, indicators, how hard could it be.
The UK/Irish tests are far more demanding, the roads and parking spots are much smaller, and have much higher failure rates and do not get a 'full license' unless you pass in a manual transmission.
