I got my tax refund back along with a little notice sayin they re-asessed it.

now I get a whopping $45 refund!! :mad:

WTF??

i owe revenue canada nothing, but am getting nothing back.

on the other hand, the US gov't is giving me just over $700 US back.

cool.

lesson learned this tax season: when you work in one country, and live in a different one, it's best to pay someone to do your taxes, than to figure them out on your own! :)

As am I....fuck....I had to dish out $61 for H&R block to file my taxes and all I'm getting back is $7.31

I wish I had enough brain power to figure out how to file my taxes on my own...

I hear ya on that one...they re-assesed my file and tacked on an extra $1700.. woohoo fuck im takin the summer off on my tax return...much needed cash for the road trip out west :)

oh ya that really sucks Dazed....I got audited last year and it took me 7 months to get my return :(

whats a tuition credit?
you can claim any tuition you paid in previous years against any amount you owe the gov't. You can not claim tuition in order to get money given to you. You can save it until a year comes up when you owe them money and then use it to reduce that amount.

People doing your taxes is pretty simple. It sounds intimidating but isn't. You just read line by line and fill in the blanks and add and subtract.
I just did mine but am taking it to h and r to get the cash in 24hrs.
I paid $0 in taxes. I am getting $450 plus $200 GST. Gotta love bein young and in school. :D

tuition carry-over

you can carry your tuition over for years....i once found an 2-year old receipt and put it forward....

i still have a whack of tuition carry over to put against my first year in the work force....you ought to look into this "reassessment"!!

Bring it here, and I'll efile it for you. Took 9 days to get mine, 11 days for my girlfriend's, and 10 days for my other friend's...

H&R block... fucking vultures...

you wanna talk stupid.. i got re-assessed and found out sometime in the winter that i owed $42... so i went and paid it, and then a few weeks later i got a cheque in the mail for... $42.

I used http://www.quicktaxweb.com

it is sanctioned officially by the government (ie. links from their website)

They charge $19.99 (if you made over $20k, that is) but that really isn't very much considering how easy it is to do your taxes with them. I did my taxes in less than 30 minutes and had my cheque in 8 days. It can be efiled easily. It also prints out a full document for your records, and saves your info (if you want) so that next year your filing is even simpler.

I give it two thumbs up.

It also nicely manages your tuition carryover which isn't as simple as some people have made it sound here.
