Got up for one last day at Whistler before they close the park next weekend. Great day; sunny and not too hot. I'm finally getting to the point where I can clear the top and land on the other side of some of the jumps.

Brad,

re: winter cycling

three n00b questions if I may

1. what kind of lube would you recommend for a commuter bike?

2. when you lube your derailleurs do you use any tools to apply it?

3. what winter tires would you recommend (that won't break the bank)?

1. I like triflow, but any bike oil will do it's pretty much a matter of preference. Some last longer, some don't pick up dirt as much etc. Put one drop on the inside of each link, work it in by pedaling backwards a few times and then wipe off the excess.

2. No tools, just put a drop of oil on each of the pivot points and on the adjustment screw threads to keep it from rusting solid

3. Studded tires are great if you can afford them, the cheapest ones are at MEC, the best ones are Schwalbe marathon winters or nokias. If you don't want to spend as much, skinnier is better than wider as it cuts through the snow... you have to go pretty skinny though, probably skinnier than you can safely put on your rims so just avoid going over ice or snow covered sections that you're not sure what's underneath!

"commencal" brand of bikes: yay or nay?
Decided not to go with that orange ride- it's just too big for her.
Found a 15.5" commencal "supernormal" on pink bikes for 775, wondering if anyone knows this brand..

I won a sales contest at work so I get a road bike for next season (I don't own it but get to ride it all season.) So basically a demo. 2010 Argon 18 Krypton. Full Durace 7900!

Rock's not a new team. They've been around (and in controversy) for three years now.
Michael Ball is the head honcho.
They have riders like Oscar Sevilla, Tyler Hamilton, Rasaan Bahati among others.

for you roadies in the crowd who know whats up, i just slapped a deposit down on a Parlee Z4. will be a mix of Campy Record/Chorus. ETA - 3 weeks.

photos to follow!

As for the fellow looking at that used Soma, that frame will be too big for you wife. I would still buy that bike though, because Soma make some KILLER bikes. Frame quality, finish + welds are top notch.

I was up in Whistler a couple of weeks back to rail down the A-line downhill a few times, best downhill course on the planet!

Went for my first night ride tonight. The 20 lumen lights on my handle bars started to die about half way down and I had to rely on the LED maglite I had taped to my helmet. Brightest flashlight I have ever used.

Lost track of the trail a few times and ended up going into the forest, but overall night riding seems to be a great way to add some excitement to trails you are overly familiar with.

i am in Vancouver, and was down in Cali not too long ago and had a chance to test drive the Z4 and a custom Z2 they had built up. After a long, hard think about it and follow-up demos of a couple of other rides i had been thinking over (Cervelo RS and Eddy Merckx EXM-5) I decided to pull the trigger on it, though the day after posting this, I had a chance to try the new Z5 - update is that I swapped my order from a Z4 to the new Z5! Getting the bike from the shop I was at in the San Fran area.

It will take a little longer to get, but man the road feel of that bike is second to none. It put the ride of the Z4 to shame (and I persist in saying that the Z4 is STILL the bees knees!).

I had the dosh kicking around so decided to go for it. Mix of Campy Super (shifters, derailleurs and cranks), Record (brakes) and Chorus (cog sets, all steel so they won't wear out as fast as the almost disposable titanium Super Record cog sets, i'll save those for special events only)

2 wheelsets, one set of Hed Ardennes and a set of Zipp 303's. I work part-time at a bike shop, so lest anyone think I am made of money I get some pretty good pro deals on stuff, hence all the nice toys (other than the bike, which I am paying full pop).

I can't wait to get it!!!

Not really 'cause no GST only applies on new bikes <1000

It is a good time to buy though as long as you don't mind not getting the 010 models and find something you like that the shop wants to move

I'm in BC, I don't think they have an upper limit. I think part of my problem is I can't ride as much right now so I spend a lot of time reading about bikes on the internets. It's like porn, but I could actually afford the ride.
