Fighting Speeding Tickets / The Strike

Anyone know if the place where you go and set a trial date for speeding tickets would be open today? Are they affected by the strike?

Has anyone ever gone through this process before? I have to go and set one up for a friend who has gone away on buisness and I have no idea how long it's going to take. Anyone think that i'll be stuck in a really long line?

court services have been deamed essential services and should be uninterupted. but i don't know if that applies to administratively setting a date and time. isn't there an automated way to do that? i would call and ask.

I've been calling but the number is eternally busy. I'm having visions of there being a 3 hour lineup. I don't have time for that, but I promised this guy I'd do it, so I have no choice.

Ho owes me big if I have to sit at some ministry all day.

What do you think of POINTS or EX COPPER as a means of fighting traffic ticketing? Has anyone tried any service such as this? If so which one/s did you fing to be more effective? Also what kind of cost am i looking at?

i know a thing or two about how radars work, if you wanna talk about it...stuff like location of the cop, other cars around, calibration, etc, is good to bring up in court....also, request disclosure from the court house so they send you all the notes the cop has for your infraction..

good luck!

Thanks.
The cop wasn't there.
The car in front of me stopped on the 401 because the car infront of him slowed down.
I was checking my blind spot to change lanes after realizing that the guy in front of me was nuts.
Looked back after checking blind spot to see his brake lights on.
I was able to slow to about 20 or 30km/h before impact
Totaled my car, his was fine
If I would have swerved, I would have hit other cars and probably caused one of those massive pile ups that you always hear about.
No serious injuries (the other driver and my girlfriend were checked out at a hospital and released right away.
I got 6 points and a 325$ fine (but the real killer will be my insurance, if i don't win this)
It happened right before xmas, court date is in augest.

I used "Points" to help fight a carelesss ticket and won.

As far as price goes, I believe it was a $500 flat fee. But, then again, that was 10 years ago.

(wow, it's been ten years now, hard to believe)

good luck

I just went through this process.

It really is a nightmare, and unless this is for a lot of money, really not worth your time (unless you are stuck on principles or hate cops)

First you have to go to set your date.
They say be there at 9 o'clock.
First they go through all the lawyers, which takes forever, just to make you and everyone else who actually had to take off work to be there wait longer...

Eventually they will finish with the lawyers (who represent people who don't actually show up) and then get on with your stuff. Take note that the judges need frequent breaks to look stuff up, and a 15 minute recess is actually a 45 minute recess.

I have done this process a couple of times and NEVER have they got around to my case before 1 o'clock (ie. sitting around since 9). There is no rhyme or reason to the order and they don't have a schedule posted so you can't go away and come back. You must sit there and wait... and wait... and wait...

This all just to SET the date of your case.
Then you need to come back and do it again to actually have your case.

Almost ALWAYS, the crown will offer to reduce the charge to something pretty small if you agree to plead guilty right there, in which case you pay a small charge and the 'victim surcharge' (a charge for being charged) and can save yourself money and hassle.

In short... honestly... it's not worth your time to bother with this crap. And I seriously doubt that you can go in "for" your friend who is out of town unless you have power of Attorney (which you probably don't...)

Also, it is really disgusting how justice at this level really is only accessible to the rich. Also, if you are rich you can avoid with the nonsense of civil law too (ie. you needn't bother adhere to those laws). It is disgusting how our system works and as an excercise in contempt for the law, I advise you to go through this process at least once. Fines should be proportional to income like in many European countries.

I had the same charge, careless driving, 6 demerit points. I went to court and fought it myself and won....saved myself $500

Almost anytime you schedule a court date for a traffic of moving violation they're reduce your fine and points just for showing up. I was charged with careless driving and was looking at an almost $400 fine. As soon as my name was called they offered to drop it to 2 points at a fine of $125 if i pleaded guilty with an explanation....didn't have to ask me twice.....

Ex coppers aren't the best

I used Ex coppers in the past and was really dissapointed, they charge more so I thought they did more, but all they ended up doing was pleaing down my case.. I checked out the industry and went with a company called Traffic Ticket Solutions,There website is www.trafficticketsolutions.ca. Check them out. I searched around and they are the best price for service I could find. Good luck with your ticket!

I would only support this progressive penatly system if high income earners could pay their fines in Grey Poupon or community service teaching Polo to inner city youth.
