Predictably in the techno genre my hat goes in the ring for the BOK boys: Mike Gibbs, Jamie Kidd and Hali...however...being *relatively* new to the omgtechnoismyfavourite scene, i'm curious to hear others recommendations and preferences! :)

I'll second Jap_, absolutley solid mixing with lots of trickery. Extremely fresh track selections.

Noah and Kidd are on point as well.

bah this thread is ghey -

Attention !! Tribe Popularity contest up in here!

So what is it that makes a good dj these days? Is it the fact they are in the position of status or is that they really got skillz?
What is the 'Toronto Style' ?

Too bad I never heard Todd/Oddmyth play, but snagging a few crates from the guy has me thinkin I'd like what he plays...:)

My fave toronto DJ's hardly ever play: Task (always a blast - but why you play at 5am every time??), Eliot Lazor (out for the count now I guess, until he showcases his productions), Adam Duke (95% of the time, his set with Kidd on halloween was great!).

Out of the more "regular" guys with regular bookings I usually enjoy Pred and Kidd...;)

But the #1 guy who plays around town a lot these days is Hali. He slowly converted me over the course of a few harvest late-morning sets... and now I'm a full-fledged "fan". Hits that line between techno and house that I've been really enjoying lately. Fully compatible with my current taste.

Alright lets get some drama happening like the good ol' day !! Tribe has been sooo boring lately

So does a good dj mean having their hands near the mixer and jacking their hands in the air @ the break of a song to make it look like their are the ones doing something great?

Precisely. I, unfortuantely, have not perfected this, therefore my name is no where to be found. :(

Oh you polite fun loving Canadians....you should take off the gloves and go at it like the people on www.detroitluv.com

Life is short...have some fun!

My picks....
Tim Patrick
TK
Sara Scruton ( and NO!... not because we are married )
Milligan is still the only one able to make me watch the decks for 45 mins straight though....(defines serious skills)

I prefer the definition of good dj to include their ability to get people from various backgrounds to dance together.

Fuck being cool to watch. Rent the dvd.

Agreed!
But when a DJ comes with skills ya don't get to see everyday it makes ya want to see what they are all about.

Spazz said it well....hand jacking isnt skillz...unless yer a fluffer in the porn industry.

When a DJ doesn't keep me dancing I go home. Watching them is not what is meant to be done. If that was the case there'd be multiple camera angles with a video mixer throwing a Hi-Def vid on a screen. Instead, they put in those big black boxes called speakers and marked off this crazy area that Toronto poorly uses called a dance-floor!

More dancing. Less watching.
