Hey guys, I'm in the Woodbridge area and was wondering what shops are close by for mechanical work as well as for shopping for parts. I used to go to Big Kahuna but it looks like it closed down. Shit I don't even know where to oil filters right now. Would Canadian Tire carry them?

Thanks.

^^ well shoot. One of the shops I was considering purchasing the next bike from.

I don't get the marked parking- any idea what it's in response to? The former idea of having to buy a parking plate "tag" ? Or complaints from car drivers that bikes take up too much space- even though i know we're all good at parking tight & close :) Otherwise it seems like a make work project.

Hope the Toronto roads get swept soon.
Female Ride Day is this sat, should any ladies be interested. There's various groups rides on FB. I gotta work so won't be going, but Markham Power sports has their Honda test ride day, who knows :D Motorcycle Woman! MOTORESS - International Female Ride Day - JUST RIDE!

Rosey Toes is at Wilson & Wendell (401 & Weston). He's a character that one.

fsmotorcycle.com has great parts and I believe he can ship stuff to you so you don't have to go down to Dundas & Carlaw. Glen is the nicest guy in the industry.

Other than that... I can't help ya. :p

Try Daytona Motor Sports or Dynamic Cycle Parts - both not too far from you.
This thread has a wealth of dealer resources sorted by type of vendor and location in Ontario.

I'm going to be leading a ride this Saturday if any Triders want to partake - leaving Mississauga and running up through the Muskoka region and back home. It will be a nice weekend to see what the roads are like and I have a few nice waterside stops to take breaks at.
Here's the route: https://goo.gl/maps/5iuxF About 9-10hrs and around 700km total.

Meeting Spots:
West: Tim Hortons just south of the Hwy 401 on Hurontario - leaving around 8am
Toronto: Tim Hortons at Weston Rd and Hwy 401 - leaving by 8:30am
North: Tim Hortons/Shell on Innisfil Beach Rd just east of Hwy 400 - leaving around 9am

From my understanding they are looking at removing the 'parking is free anywhere bylaw' and only applying free parking to certain areas for motorcycles.

I just want to point out that they do not state anywhere that they intend on charging for motorcycle parking. It was suggested and inferred earlier, however as of now there are no plans to do so. They would have to retrofit every single parking machine to accept plate in order to do this.

One of the things they are trying to cut down on is parking motorcycles on sidewalks, specifically mopeds (e.g. vespas. I always get mixed up between mopeds & scooters).

It also helps to have designated areas for motorcycle parking so you don't have cars backing into you. We'll see what they do once the recommendations are provided in the fall of this year.

If you want a more in-depth discussion on this, GTAM has a sticky on this very issue:

Motorcycle Parking Fees Recommended without Notice or Public Consultation click on the last page.

Confused, why would they have to retrofit machines?

Because there is no way to secure a parking stub to your motorcycle without the wind blowing it away, or some jerk swiping it off the bike.
Just as a quick note, I and many others were riding long before free parking was implemented. You would secure the ticket under the seat, where they always place a parking ticket if you get one. For extra safety you could remove the receipt portion of the ticket this should dissuade anyone from swiping it and you can prove payment if you get a ticket.

Not ideal, but this is how we worked it before free parking.

Yeah I remember the stub, though to be honest I never even knew there was a stub until someone mentioned it. This after literally 2 decades of driving down to Toronto and paying for parking.

You can make the argument that this still inconveniences the motorcycle rider - and I believe these are the arguments that were made successfully. If you receive a ticket that you did not deserve, you still have to go down to metro hall to fight your ticket, or spend the time to dispute it online.

Secondly you're still paying the same amount of money for parking even though you're taking up a fraction of the space, and though you can make the same argument for limos and trucks (in the other direction), the risk for motorcycle riders is that they're at risk at having their motorcycle knocked over by a motorist who is backing up their car.

Sold my scooter last night. I thought I'd be more downcast about it, but I'm fine.

Had my fun for a few summers, on to new things!

Bump!

Hopefully heading back down to the Smoky Mountains for some sweet riding and fall colours at the end of September. What a great season it has been for riding this year!

gf fractured her collar bone and has a few bumps and scrapes from an accident from a month ago. :| Her bike is getting fixed and should be alright (750 gsxr 2012). She'll be fine too, she just needs physio and a few months of recovery.

I'm still bikeless but that's alright. I'll get one in about 1-2 years me thinks?
