Stewardship Events Coordinator

Evergreen is an environmental organization whose mission is to bring communities and nature together for the benefit of both. Our Common Grounds program engages communities in restoring parks and natural areas, and encourages community development through participation. We are seeking an energetic individual with a strong interest in community-based environmental restoration to coordinate weekend and weekday evening stewardship events.

Main Areas of Responsibility:

Reporting to the Common Grounds Manager, Stewardship, the Coordinator will:

coordinate and lead community planting and stewardship events at restoration sites and community gardens throughout Greater Toronto;
lead environmental education walks and talks; and
must be available some weekends and weekday evenings.
Qualifications:

university or college degree/diploma (or equivalent professional experience) in environmental studies, natural sciences, ecological restoration or a related field;
native plant identification skills and knowledge;
experience (can be volunteer) with community planting and stewardship events;
experience (can be volunteer) training and supervising volunteers;
strong leadership, public speaking and presentation skills;
valid driver's license;
first aid training an asset; and
possession of vehicle an asset.

Term of Contract:part-time, April to October, Flexible

Stewardship Coordinator - Community Gardens

Evergreen is an environmental organization whose mission is to bring communities and nature together for the benefit of both. Our Common Grounds (CG) program works at community garden sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area; a number of these gardens are located on the properties of agencies that serve the homeless and those at-risk of homelessness. We are seeking an energetic individual with a strong interest in community gardening and community development to act as a Stewardship Coordinator.

Main Areas of Responsibility:
Reporting to the Common Grounds Manager, Stewardship, the Coordinator will:

coordinate and lead community planting and maintenance events at CG community garden sites;
coordinate and lead education and training events, including workshops oriented to the employment training, life skills development and food security needs of homeless and at-risk participants;
recruit, train and educate volunteers;
work closely with municipal partners and partner agencies to coordinate program activities;
seek and develop partnerships with new agencies;
prepare and distribute communications materials;
manage project budgeting;
manage employment training interns and students; and
prepare project evaluations and reports to funders.
Qualifications:

university or college degree/diploma (or equivalent professional experience) in a field related to environmental stewardship or social work;
experience with the delivery of programming to disadvantaged groups and individuals;
two to five years of work experience;
interest in community gardening, native plants and food security;
strong leadership, public speaking and presentation skills;
must be highly organized, creative and self-directed;
basic familiarity with computers (ms word and excel); and
valid driver's license.
