Ever just consider walking away from it all?

Quitting, or getting fired from your job, hocking all your belongings for whatever you can get, then fucking off to a 2nd or 3rd world country and live there as long as you can on the money you have.

Every day this seems more and more tempting.

Ever thought about it? Where would you go and what would you do?

I would either go to Thailand and Dirtybke/surk/scuba dive.

OR

Head to Kenya and Ride a dirt bike all thru Africa

I have enough assets to buy a small place to live and ill forever.

I've definetely pondered it.

But I'd never go through with it. In my case, I don't think it would be all that it is cracked up to be.

The standard of living in our country is ridiculous. The excess, the waste. How hard would it be to strip it all down and live with the essentials.

I bet it would be easier than any of us can imagine.

I just signed a one year lease, maybe after that I'd do it.

I agree! in fact I now have to debate just this fact. Take the money and run and see where it leads, or live here and live a life defined by a history of education by people who live the exact same life they thought I would want...

Interesting story,

a guy used to work here, excellent salary, rich family, UCC grad, Western business grad, that type. Quit his job and went off to work on a sail boat in the South Pacific. He was here for about 5 years and just left. Just didnt want to work anymore.

I look at it this way, he has probably more options than most. His family is pretty wealthy. So if push comes to shove he could always up and leave, and still have a place.

I guess it all depends on what you want out of life. I think about it from time to time, but I really wouldn't want to leave my family and friends, never mind a job that pays alright.

Fortunately for me I can always take a leave for a month or so if I really wanted to get away for a while. I like the creature comforts that a steady job affords. Like a nice place to live, food in the fridge, drinks when I feel like it, and very good benefits from work.

I've backpacked all through Europe and as much as I loved it, it was nice to come home and have some stability.

To each his/her own I guess.

You think people in general in this city are fake? Wow. Cynicism much? How do you anything about those people?

There is tons of great stuff going on in this city, on many different levels. You may not like the lifestyle, but to judge peoples intentions is being pretty ignorant.

my friend did. She is truly an inspiration to me.
She up and left TD Waterhouse, sold her car, got rid of her apt. & all belongings and left to India.
Where she has now been for almost 2 years. She has worked with children at orphanage that has something to do with Mother Theresa?? She has written an article that was published in a small zine for women who travel alone to other countries, specifically India and what to expect. Her emails bring me to tears b/c I am truly witnessing someone break free from all this BS.
She is now studying yoga with a very, recognized yoga teacher...(name...is eluding me right now)
She also attended the World Social Forum that just took place there.
Basically, she did it. and is continuing to do it. simple.

she truly is a blessing in my life. and inspires me to do better things more than she knows.

but, anyways...sorry went off on a tangent there. But yes, I think about this more often....like, all the time.
