they're essential if you want all perspectives. i'm not asking for just the ones that you guys think are good. i'm also looking for the ones that shape popular opinion.

I like the Washington Post. CNN is garbage.

However my favourite is probably the international herald tribune (iht.com). Obviously, news.google.com is the best link ever. Can't wait until they allow users to customize their pages.

www.drudgereport.com

It's not news in itself, but links to the more important and interesting news stories. It's the first place I go to for news most days.

Will... you should sign up the the Harper's weekly news if you haven't already. I look forward to it showing up in my inbox every Tuesday. It's a few paragraphs of all of the big news (and some stuff not covered in mainstream press that is nonetheless interesting) from the past week, and you can usually find the full story on google if any of the headlines interest you. www.harpers.org or email join-harpers-weekly@pluto.sparklist.com

fine. call them quasi-media links that shape popular opinion.

where do you get your news from?

alternatively, is there a website somewhere that attempts to link all the major worldwide news sources?

www.radio4all.net

For access to ALL the alternative radio press in the US, and some in Canada. Some of the world, all downloadable in MP3 for free. If you want to gague reactions to events without relying on corporate media perspectives that's the place to get it.

Edit, just to add, I'd die without this site, my mp3 player is always loaded with every week's full of shows.
I recommend, Unwelcome guests, Mind Over Matters, Cultural Baggage, Pacifica Radio, and Democracy now.

Yes, this should be your start page.. the only thing I don't like about it is that it's a bit slow at catching up on breakign news.

But it's excellent at linking a news story to every web source that's currently covering it.

edit: Actually, you should be using http://news.google.ca

never tried it.

i did not start this thread because i wanted to find news sources for myself. :)

i'm trying to put together a comprehensive list that covers a wide spectrum of views and opinions.

(it's to help out a client with a project. they already have a decent list. i was hoping to augment it if possible.)

thanks for the help.

ps. pete - i've read harper's a few times. i'll sign up for the newsletter.

If you want an idea of the format and stories covered, there's a thread titled 'harper's weekly' somewhere around here where we've pasted the weekly news into.

*bump*

Does anyone subscribe to any particular political email lists that they'd like to recommend? I finally got around to setting up another email address to gather them all together.

So far I've only done Harper's Weekly Review
