ok i usually go to H&R block and lose my money when i do my rebates but this year i am going to be smart and do it myself. Where can you buy those efile things for income tax rebates and are they difficult to use and do you have to register with revenue canada or anything when you use it

cheers

How is it easier by phone than over the net? Wouldn't you have to sit there punching in dozens of numbers?

You don't need to download any software to file your taxes electronically, you can usually go with ufile.ca for $12.

It's pretty simple stuff and they walk you through the whole process.

it takes about 5 minutes. and it's not that many numbers. they ask you for about 7 figures. they do the rest based on your answers. no software to buy, no bullshit, free (which is cheaper than 12 bucks.)
it's bliss.

AND, it's the fastest return. they even tell you that.
the least amount of people file by phone. therefore, they get the fastest returns.

what do you mean 'they even tell you that'?

the website for telefile says 2 weeks, and the website for netfile says 8 business days.

it's in your tax package somewhere.
I haven't opened mine yet.

you have to do it by hand of course first, then you call.

altogether this takes me 30-40 minutes, cash in account 4-5 bus. days later.

typically with net-file i've received my rebate/refund usually around 2wks after submission (through direct deposit). super-fast and convenient.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that telefile won't be so easy for people who have anything more difficult than the standard I made X, and maybe put Y in RRSP's. If they have to start taking into donations, and capital gains, losses, RESP's, mortgage payements, school and the like I just don't see this being easier.

A great service for the public that needs a simple way to do simple taxes. But the vast majority of people are probably served better by the $35 investment in quick tax and 30 minutes at their computer.

excellent point.
I have no rsp's. too many bills to save money. seems illogical. but Ive been claiming a massive amount of tuition for a few years, and that was easy. they kinda take your word for ALOT. they dont care about proof, but HANG ON TO YOUR PROOF. sometime you get a letter in June where they went back and reviewed your claim and felt like seeing receipt A or whatever.
